Conclusions:
The purpose of this laboratory was to find the quantity and hardness of magnesium and calcium

that were found in two unknown solutions, with the use of EDTA as the triatan , an

complexometric titration is performed in which some formations between the magnesium and

calcium ions are bonded with cations of EDTA to complete the reaction, the completion of this

ligand can be visualized with the metallochromic indicators such as Eriochrome Black T and

calconcarboxylic acid.

When all the metals ions have been complexed, the solution turns blue, since The pH of the

solution is an important factor for the reaction as the Black T indicator only changes to red from

pH 6-7 to blue from pH 11-12, the change in color of the solution determines that all metal ions

have been complexed.

Some source of errors that may have occurred during the laboratory are systematic, incorrect

measurement of the instruments, since it is expected that the instruments are well calibrated, a

misuse of these could totally change the results of the experiment.

Therefore, by finding the moles of magnesium and calcium using the ratio 1: 1 with the moles

EDTA it is possible to find the total mass of Ca and Mg present in the sample. To determine the

total amount of mass in the sample, the value obtained in the average of the three trials must be

multiplied and multiplied by the total volume. Therefore, in the first magnesium titration the

average mass of mg in total sample was 47.06 mg, for the titration of ca and Mg together, the

average mass of Mg in the total sample was 10.3 mg and of Ca was 104.46 mg.
