Educ 613- Comparative Education

Mid-Term Examination
1. What do you understand by the thought Comparative Education?
Comparative Education as what I have learned and understood pertains to evaluating
the development of educational system that exists in different countries. Moreover, I
also learned to compare the educational system of one country to another and how one
educational system aims to meet the needs of both the students and teachers with
respect to its national identity, language and cultural heritage.

2. Discuss comprehensively Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP)

Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) in the Philippines is highlighted during
this time of pandemic where face to face learning is not possible. The aim is to ensure
that the learners still learn their lessons using different learning modalities such as
modular, online or the combination of both despite the pandemic or any natural
calamities. The learning modalities that each school chose and implemented were based
on the survey conducted prior to the opening of school on October 5, 2020.
The Curriculum Guide (CG) of the Department of Education was modified into MELC or
Most Essential Learning Competencies in order to compress or integrate, to omit, or to
retain some learning competencies that were highly needed in the teaching-learning
process.

3. What are to be considered for comparative education to have its status enhanced in
our educational system?
The mere comparing of the educational system of one country to another must
be enhanced into understanding the effectiveness of the implemented learning
curriculum for the development of educational system. Moreover, the problems of
every learning curriculum or educational system implemented by each country, must be
put into consideration as well to further understand why there’s a need for educational
reformation. The reformation of educational system must focus on the benefits of both
teachers and students.
4. List and discuss the factors that can influence the educational system in our country.

*The ratio of teachers to students in a classroom

- I believed that in order to achieve quality education, there must be a justifiable
ratio of teacher in each student. This a crucial step in order to assure quality assessment
of the student’s learning most especially in public schools.

*Learning materials such as books must be quality assured in order to give error-free
instruction and reliable information

*If there is “Education for All” there must be “Equal Quality Education for All”
- some schools in rural areas do not have equal access in technological
information and some only relies in an outdated information from books. Giving
computers in each school is not enough if the students cannot use them due to lack of
internet connection.

*Lifting the morale of teachers

-Teachers are one of the underpaid employees in our country despite their
overload works in school according to ABS-CBN news dated May 30, 2019. In order to
cope up with the globalization as what Millennium Development Goals (MDG) aims in
upcoming year, the salary of the teachers must be standardized to avoid brain drain and
to attract foreign teachers as well with the aim of exchanging ideas, learnings and cross-
cultural understanding.

5. Differentiate between the educational system of England and USA

The England educational system focused on lecture-based, with only occasional
assignments throughout the semester. In some cases, the entire grade maybe based on
one final exam. However, the USA educational system focused on outcome-based
education that requires weekly or even biweekly readings as well as other assignments
such as small writing projects, major research papers and oral presentations throughout
the course.

6. Mention all the categories of people that may influence the development of a country.

*the quality of education

*develop the resources found in the country
*the access to job opportunities in line with their specialization
*industrialization
