Title : Osmosis

Aim : To investigate the effect of changing the salt solution on the rate of osmosis in cups of potatoes
strips.

Hypothesis: I predict that the potatoes strip are going to have a decrease in size when the salt solution
will be added and left for a period of time .

Materials and apparatus :

 4 Cups
 4 Potatoes strips
 Water
 Salt
 Ruler
 Measuring spoons

Method :

 First take 4 cups and full them up with water of the same amount ( 50 ml) .
 Next leave the first cup (A) as it is and add salt to the reminding three (3) .
 Add 1 table spoon salt to cup B , ½ table spoon in cup C and 1 tea spoon of salt to cup D .
 Now take four (4) potatoes strips 2 cm in length and 0.8 cm width and place one in each cups
and leave it for an hour
 Record what you see .
 Tabulate results

 4 cups were filled with 50ml of water

 Cup A was left as it is and salt was added to the reminding 3 cups .
 A table spoon of salt was added to cup B , ½ table spoon of salt was added to cup C and a
teaspoon of salt was added to cup D
 4 potatoes strips 2cm in length and 0.8 cm width were placed into the 4 cups one of each
 Observations were recorded
 Results were tabulated
