ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Alhamdulillah, finally our group have successfully finish our Strata fieldwork
and report in given time. We were so grateful as for Allah that had gave us the
strength and good mind in proceeding our Advance Cadastral (SUG669). Indeed
its undeniable that we only able to finish our work in this semester survey camp
with the companion of Allah The Merciful and The Greatest Of All.

We were also so thankful that we were guided by professional lecturer such

as Dr. Saiful Aman and En. Hezry as they have gave us a very valuable
knowledge on how professional and real Strata work conducted. With a lot of
information shared, they also teach us the detail on how Strata and traverse work
can be finished. Without them of course all of us will face a hard time by the time
we want to finish our work. We also appreciate on other group members as them
have work together with us and finally together we manage to finish our Strata
work in time.

2
Lastly, thanks a lot to also to all my friends for their support and
encouragement for all the time in this time of survey camp. We believe that that
have help us in many ways and enable us to finish excellently.EXECUTIVE

CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION OF STRATA SURVEY

The strata title is a subdivision of a building or land into parcels of separate titles
which are called strata titles for each parcel. For it to be declared a strata titles it have to
meet a several conditions. The first condition is the building that must have two or more
storeys. The building also must on be an alienated land and must be held as one lot

8
under Final Title. Each parcel also is to be held under a separate title. When the building
is subdivided the title to the land which is the building being stands is retained but
register under a body called Management Corporation. As soon as the strata titles to the
parcels are registered it exits automatically.

AIM

The aim of the project is to carried out strata survey for the entire lot of Kulim Square
and produce the strata plan of the area digitally and hardcopy and the survey is being
done manually.

OBJECTIVES

1. To understand the all the concepts regarding Strata Title and procedures to conduct
Strata Title Survey(Subdivision Of Building) with accordance to Strata Title Act(STA)
1985.
2. To experience and familiarize with the work flows on producing Strata Title under
mentioned Act.
3. To determine the buildings dimensions (horizontal and vertical) and compare with
the architect’s plan.
4. To identify type of the parcels of the bulding,eg: accessory parcels and the common
property.
5. To produce Certified Plan of the surveyed lot.
6. To produce Certified Strata Plan
PROJECT OVERVIEW

REVIEW OF THE SURVEY WORK

For this survey work our team has to perform various kind of works. These include
differential field test, traverse, detail or topography survey. Our survey for traverse work
does not include a solar observation because we conducted and manage to declare a
three good mark in which according to PKUP 2009, When three good mark are in
tolerance, there no need to do solar observation. All this work was conducted and
recorded manually using fieldbook. We were assigned at Kulim Square, Kedah for our
Strata survey work. The reconnaissance is being done to determine the previous
boundary mark and also to find us a suitable location for us to start our work. The

9
reconnaissance is being done based on the building plan that was obtained at the facility
unit.
We firstly start our work with EDM test or Total Station calibration involving pillar test.
The calibration we conducted according to regulation whereas the distance recorded
between pillar are calculated. After that, we start our work with DFT. The DFT are done
and conducted in order to check and make sure our total station is in good condition or
else. After DFT, then we proceed traverse work. The traverse work must being
conducted according to the KPUP 1 2015 survey regulations whereas the difference
between the circle right and the circle left is not more than 20” and the whole traverse
tolerance must not exceed 1’15” for angle miclosure with under 10” for each station and
must be over 1: 8000 for linear misclosure.
After finishing traverse work, we pick up a detail or topography surveying for building
includes. This surveying require us to take the detail of our site as much as we can in
order to make our site look more accurate and in position when we process in Autocad.
Then we also need to take the horizontal dimensions of each parcel and height for each
floor. This is to determine the area and calculate the unit share for each of the parcel and
this work were done by using Destometer as its function is to measure distance between
wall.

RECONNAISSANCE

19
As a work start, firstly we must reconnaissance the area that we want to conduct the
survey. In our case, we were given a task to finish the work in Kulim Square. This
procedure enable us to get the first look of our work and also the general view of our
site. The objective of the reconnaissance is:
1. We can get the general idea of what our site look like
2. Can help us locate the old boundary mark and identify the condition of it.
3. Can help us identify the location to start our new traverse work.

EDM CALLIBRATION
1. To test the accuracy and error of instrument which is Total Station.
2. Tolerance of EDM is ±0.010mm.

Procedures:
1. Setting up the total station at pillar 1.
2. Next, place the prism at pillar 2.
3. Observe the distance and record.
4. Set up others prism for the rest of pillar
5. Observe distance from pillar 1 to 3.
6. Observations are taking for each of pillar. Repeat the step 5 until finish
observation to pillar 10.
7. Next, place the total station at pillar 2. Observe distance to prism at pillar 3.
8. Repeat the step until last at pillar 10.
9. 17 observations have been made.
10. Differences between absolute distance and observation distance are shown. If
the differences below than 10mm, the instrument are stay in good condition

DIFFERENTIAL FIELD TEST

1. The differential field test is being done on order to tested the total station is in the
good condition or not.
2. The differential field test tolerance is 0.010 meters and this process is should be
done when to start a new job.
3. To start the differential field tests establish a line that was about 95.269 m long.
4. Place the total station between the prisms.

20
5. Then measure the distance and compare it to the original distance.

95.269 m

DATUM

1. Before start a traverse work the datum has been identified.

2. We establish a series of consecutive lines as our position are in BKL. The datum
used three boundary mark and need to prove it in good condition by checking the
interior angle.
3. The two boundary marks are marked as BKL and the other marked as BL.
4. Then front additional station set the bearing in face left condition according to the
bearing from Certified Plan.
5. Then target the prism at the boundary (BKL) and the bearing and distance are
recorded.

21
6. Then the data are calculated as it is observed
7. It been calculated to compared the interior angle of the boundary marks as state
in certified plan and the observation.
8. The different of new and old interior angle must not more than 10”

TRAVERSE

Purpose to carry out a traverse are for used as horizontal control. Through traversing the
coordinate from the datum can transfer to each our new station using bearing and
distance from observation.

We were starting our traverse by using 3 good mark with the angle approved by Dr.
Saiful Aman is 11” as our baseline.

Procedure:
1. After get the datum we can start our traverse work.
2. To start the traverse work first set the total station at the station 1. For our site we
choose the additional station mentioned above as our first station.
3. Then target the prism at the station 2 using face left and set the bearing that we
get.
4. Then target the prism at the station 3 or foresight station using the same face.
5. Target the prism at the station 2 again but this time using face right.
6. Then target the prism at the station 3 or foresight station using the same face.
7. Observed all the boundary marks that have been found.
8. Repeat the step until we arrived at the last station and finish our work.

We obtained 10” for closed bearing and get C correction -0.77” for each station and the
linear misclosure was 1: 39682. Boundary mark
.Refixation
Refixation need to applied if the position of the boundary marks went missing or out of
position from its original position. The difference of boundaries mark that have been
observed and the actual position which is the Old Boundary Mark is called vector
displacement.

Tolerance for Vector Displacement.

22
Nobserved– NOldboundarymark = ⩟ Latitude
Eobserved – EOldboundarymark = ⩟ Departure

According to the PKUP 2009 tolerance for refixation is the different of vector
displacement between old boundaries and observed is not more than 0.05 meter for
urban and for development area is 0.1 m. If the different is out of tolerance, the old
boundary mark needs to be refix because it is out of its actual position.

Comparison between old and observed boundary marks.

STN Type of Observed Old Different Status

station N E N E
6 pk -62026.929 -10254.916 -62010.615 -10238.593 23.078 Refix
8 pk -61992.289 -10215.100 -62003.511 -10226.436 15.951 Refix

For lot of Kulim Square, there have 18 boundary marks according to the certified plan.
But in the meantime, while the traversing is on progress, we just find two marks of the lot
which are the mark of TNB area and the other are missing. After make the comparison
between old and observed from the traverse station, the two marks need to refix
because it’s out of tolerance.

According to the PKUP 2009, if any boundary marks that found are out of tolerance
and the other are missing, its need to refix by demarcate the new marks.
The new marks can be demarcated by calculating the missing line from the traverse
station to the boundary marks. Missing line (bearing & distance) between station and old
boundary can check by using the Casio Scientific calculator by:

1. Shift + (+ button) POL (⩟ Latitude, ⩟ Departure) = Distance

2. Alpha + (tan button) = Bearing

Methodology of offset to demarcate the new boundary marks that more than 1 meter
from traverse station.

23
1. Based on figure above, instrument setting up at station 4 and reference bearing
from 3.
2. Open the offset bearing 191 02 40 (calculated missing line from coordinate)
3. Demarcate the new boundary at the distance that has been calculated which is
8.004.

DETAIL SURVEY/TOPOGRAPHY SURVEY

1. Firstly choose the station where we want to setup the total station and the prism as
the RO. For example our group pick station # to put the total station at # as our RO.
2. Then we observed the edges of buildings to ensure that the building located wholly
in the lot.
3. Then decide what type of detail that want to take to be put in the CP. Our group
choose the edge of the building as our detail.
4. Then target the RO station using circle left which is station 9.
5. Then target the topography detail that we want to take and take the point detail that
is the horizontal bearing, vertical bearing and the distance of the point.
6. We manually booking the detail and topography survey we have take in fieldbook

DIMENSION SURVEY
Measurement the Dimension of Building

24
The horizontal dimensions of the building have been shown in the building plan.
Therefore, we only need to re-measure (inspection) the dimensions of the building and
compare with the dimensions of the building in the building plan to ensure it is not
exceed the displacement limit which is 0.005m. But still, if there any exceed in
displacement, we should inform the building plan to be amended. The instrument to be
used in accordance to this stage of work is the Distometer. It only measures distance by
shooting laser from the Distometer to any point end of it.

FLOOR 5

FLOOR 4

FLOOR 3

FLOOR 2

FLOOR 1

During this stage of work, the actions have been taken are:

1. A Field Book is prepared

i. With sketches of each floor of the building with respect to each unit parcels on each
floor.
ii. The sketches are made without scale.

2. Determine the height of each floor.

25
i. For each floor, the height is taken at the staircase, where a piece of paper is held by
a person above or below perpendicular to the line of measurement to stop the
measurement laser of the Distometer (Same as concept of Prism). This is to acquire
the accurate distance for the desired measurement.
ii. The height measurement is measured to the 0.01m.
iii. The Distometer is held vertically upward and level horizontally (same as the concept
of Total Station) by balancing the level bubble attached with the Distometer.
iv. Each measurement must be made many times to obtain precise values. And all the
values must be averaged to a value.
v. All the data obtained are recorded in the Field Book.
vi. The width of the ceiling or floor must also be measured and be subtracted to obtain
the true height of each floor.

3. Determine the length and width of each unit of parcels.

i. All the length and width of each unit of parcel will be re-measured and compare with the
dimensions in the building plan to ensure it is not exceed 0.005m.
ii. The entire dimension of each unit parcels is measured to the 0.01m.
iii. The Distometer is held horizontally by balancing the level bubble attached with the
Distometer.
iv. Each measurement must be made many times to obtain precise values. And all the
values must be averaged to a value.
v. All the data obtained are recorded in the Field Book.
vi. The width of the walls between two unit of parcels must also be measured to
determine the actual area of the parcel.

4. Declaration in the field book.

i. The title number for each floor and each unit of parcels must be declared.
ii. Storey at the ground of the building is declared as Floor 1 and so forth.
iii. Numbering the parcel is start from first floor and so forth.
iv. All numbering must be unique and cannot be repeated.

5. This dimension will be plot on plans.

UNIT SHARE
1. According to the paragraph 10 (1) (h) AHS 1985 every JTB must prepare every unit
share.

26
2. To prepare unit share every JTB must follow this formula:

CHAPTER 4: RESULT AND ANALYSIS

FIELD WORK

DIFFERENTIAL FIELD TEST

1. If the tolerance is below 0.010m then the total station is in good condition.
2. The result shown for our differential field test is 0.004 m, where the different from (C
to A) + (C to B) = A to B= 0.001m
3. Acceptable limit is must not exceed ± 10 mm, so the result obtained is acceptable
and the survey work can be proceed by using this total station.

Distance A – B = 95.269 meter

Distance C – A = 20.496 meter
Distance C – B = 74.772 meter
CA + CB= = 95.268 meter
AB = 95.269 meter

CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION

41
Alhamdulilllah finally we have been able to finish this site work on time.It was so hard for
us to finish as we had face so many obstacle while try to complete this task. But, with the
hard work and taught field site, we manage to train our mind along with our body
physically and psychologically and we believe that this experience will be helpful for us in
the future. We have learn so many new things when we do all the site survey. The new
things that we really learn is the new flow and also amendments of the Strata survey. In
add, we also able to learn the skill in making good plan and form. The real survey
environment with manually booking work also give us a new idea on how fieldwork be
done. In a ways, we think that we really grateful to have this opportunity to had a
practical work on Strata survey in this survey camp because we had learn so many
things.

CHAPTER 6: RECOMENDATION
PROBLEM STATEMENT AND RECOMMENDATION

42
In our Strata work, we have face many obstruction. Firstly, the venue of our discussion
room are a bit lack of basic facilities which is difficult to us to do our work and discussion
for our task smoothly. We thinks that SUG department should provide more facilities to
easier and make sure student can do their work in comfortable atmosphere. The use of
internet in discussion room were also limited. As in our line of work, we need a better
supply of internet connection in order for us to search an online information regarding
our work. We think that our need of internet are crucial as it can help us a lot in
completing our working report and many more.

In our field work, we think that old boundary mark in Kulim Square are very hard to find
because several of them are in people house or in boundaries of house area. This had
effect our work as we can only proceed our work using only several point of boundary
mark. We also think that our survey work in real field were so extreme because of the
hot weather, so it can effect our work. The hot weather can be a major problem for us as
it can physically effect our traversing and measurement for linear miclosure. As it
happen, we may had our traverse not closed or under specification of regulation given
and not in allowable tolerance. Other difficulty we face while doing our field work is the
surface condition of our Strata area. The land were a bit hard and rough which had
slower our work. So, we think that the area for Strata can be given appropriately
considering our time at the same time it can help us complete our work easily without
obstruction.

While completing a dimension survey, we had face a permission problem as the house
owner did not give permission to enter their house. This has effect our work especially in
time as it dragging our group time. So, we suggest that department can issued a
permission so that we can proceed our work for dimension survey faster and in more
proper way with permission letter or else.

For subdivision work we done, we need the use of Total Station almost all the time, so
we need to have a continuous battery power. The continuous power will easier our work
and we requesting that the department can supply more batteries in the future so that we
can finish our job on time.

Firstly, I sincerely want to thanks our lecturers and group members because give a full
commitment in this survey camp until we manage to finish successfully. From the survey
that I have done, many new things that I have discover while conducting Strata survey
which is generally on how to produce CPSP

From this field scheme, I have learned more about how to conduct the Strata survey and
how to carry out survey manually. In this survey work, we apply all the knowledge that
we have learned in UiTM to carry out the measurement to conduct this survey work.

Thankfully I got a very good team member. Our cooperation were just amazing because
of chemistry between us in doing our task. Without my other team member cooperation
and commitment in this task all of us maybe cannot finish on time. A big appreciation to
our lecturers,Dr. Saiful Aman and En. Hezry for their guidance throughout this entire
practical. Thanks for their help and information in which had help us a lot and till we
manage to clearly proceed and finish our work successfully.

With the help of other teammate or group members on my team, I also had gain many
thing especially experience and information on how real site of Strata Title survey being
done.
Besides that, I also excited to handle main instrument such as Total Station and
experience doing the traverse work. I think that being able to learn how to do Dimension
survey and processing the survey data like producing plan of CPCP had make me more
confident about this course future work. I believe that other teammates also experiencing
and felt the same thing as me.
Lastly, I am really happy to finally end our work successfully and hopefully all of us
including me can make something with this experience while conducting other survey
