Instructions to Authors
ELECTRIC POWER COMPONENTS AND SYSTEMS
is a refereed journal that publishes original papers of
permanent reference value. The papers relate to the
broad field of electromechanics, electric machines, and
power systems. Specific topics include: rotating elec-
tric machines—new methods of analysis, computation,
and design: advances in materials used in electric ma-
chines (for example, permanent magnets, supercon-
ductors, etc.); solid-state control of electric machines;
linear motors; new types of electric machines; elec-
tro magnetic fields in energy converters; control as-
pects of electric machines; power system planning;
reliability and security; transmission and distribution;
dispatching and scheduling; high-voltage dc systems;
and power system protection. The Journal also pub-
lishes review papers, correspondence items, and book
reviews.
Submission of Manuscripts. Electric Power Com-
ponents and Systems receives all manuscript sub-
missions electronically via their Manuscript Central
website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/
UEMP. Manuscript Central allows for rapid submis-
sion of original and revised manuscripts, as well as
facilitating the review process and internal commu-
nication between authors, editors and reviewers via
a web-based platform. For Manuscript Central tech-

If you have any other requests please contact the jour-
nal’s editor: Jim Cathey at cathey@engr.uky.edu. Any
manuscript judged by the editor to exceed 25 pages in
the required double-spaced, single-column form will
be returned to the author for condensation prior to
the review process. Authors are responsible for ob-
taining permission to reproduce copyrighted material
from other sources and are required to sign an agree-
ment for the transfer of copyright to the publisher.
All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs
become the property of the publisher.
Authors should also supply a shortened version
of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding
50 character spaces. Each article should be summa-
rized in an abstract of no more than 100 words. Avoid
abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.
Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (graph drawings,
halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) must be
digital files that should follow these guidelines:
 300 dpi or higher
 sized to fit on journal page
 EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
 submitted as separate files, not embedded in
text files
Color Reproduction. Color illustrations will be con-
sidered for publication; however, the author will be
required to bear the full cost involved in color art
reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online
only conversion and reproduction or for print C on-
line reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered
if print C online reproduction costs are paid. Rates
for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduc-
tion: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page
for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge
of $525 applies. Print C Online Reproduction: $900
for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next
three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided
for articles with more than 4 pages of color.
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures may either
be embedded in the text or placed at the end of the
manuscript. A short descriptive title should appear
above each table with a clear legend, and any foot-
notes suitably identified below. All units must be in-
cluded. Figures should be completely labeled, taking
into account necessary size reduction. Captions must
appear immediately below all figures.
References. References should be grouped into a sec-
tion at the end of the paper and numbered in the order
in which they are referred to in the text, following this
format:

References to unpublished work or to work not prop-
erly indexed should not be used.
Proofs. All proofs must be corrected and returned
to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the
manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the
editor will proofread the article and it will be printed
per the editor’s instructions. Only correction of ty-
pographical errors is permitted. The author will be
charged for additional alterations to text at the proof
stage.
Reprints. Each corresponding author will receive 25
reprints of their article upon registration with Right-
slink, our authorized reprint provider. Authors will
need to create a unique account and register with
Rightslink for this free service. The link is only pro-
vided at the time of page proof review. Complimentary
reprints are not available post publication.
