down, and what to do with it.

Question 3

3.1.1

According to IIE (2020), any device may be considered as a computer as it is able to accept data

(input), processes the data that is accepted using pre-written instructions and also is able to provide

information as an output. A computer system contains the following components: Input devices,

Main memory, secondary storage, a CPU, as well as output devices. It also contains software

components. The software contains programmes that are installed on the computer. The hardware

contains a motherboard, disk drives, and a CPU case.

3.1.2

A person must consider the performance capabilities of the computer system. They must consider

the number of processors, speed, storage, and accuracy. When it comes to processors, the more

processors the computer has the faster It will be. If the computer has a 64-bit processor it would be

a better option than a 32-bit one because it is faster and can handle bigger applications better.

Computers are not known for making mistakes, computers are able to tell the difference between

4.03 and 4.02 when the average human would just round off the number. Computers can store a

large amount of data and accessing it quickly. IIE (2020)

3.1.3

They are referred to as Fifth generation computers, as they support parallel processing, chips that

run at a higher speed and uses less power.

Printer: This will print reports and anything on paper that may need as a hardcopy.

Webcam: This will allow them to be seen by other participants of the meeting.

Wi-Fi Router: This will enable them to connect to the internet and be able to retrieve files that are

not on their local drives from elsewhere.

3.1.7

Personal Computers

3.2

According to IIE (2020) these are the following basic operations that can be done by a computer.:

1. Arithmetic Operations: Calculations that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication,

division and raising numbers to a power.

2. Logical Operations: Deals with performing comparisons, for instance, determining whether a

certain condition is true or false

3. Storage and Retrieval: Involves storing large amounts of data in small spaces and getting

them at a rapid pace when needed.

3.3

The two types of software are the following IIE (2020):

1.Operating System Software: It is a set of programs designated to manage the hardware and other

software installed onto the computer. Its functions contain prioritizing tasks performed by the CPU,
managing computer resources such as storage and memory, maintaining data integrity by generating

checksums to ensure that data does not get corrupted and, control the transfer of data between the

CPU, memory and I/O devices.

2. Application Software: installed onto the computer to perform a variety of tasks by the user.

Application software has several uses such making business activities efficient, assist with

communications and, supporting busines tasks. Application software can be in the following forms:

Packaged, Custom, Open Source, Shareware, Freeware and public domain.
