UST-SHS Earth Science 1

ES - PeTa 3:

Jingle Bell Rock(s):

The Utilization, Conservation, and Protection of Resources
GOAL: The students should be able to create a music video that will convey the key concepts learned in Earth Science
about the utilization, conservation, and protection of our natural resources. They must be able to compose their own lyrics
and integrate them to a tune of a Christmas song, or produce an original song of their own. The product aims to encourage
people to also take part in the conservation and management of our natural resources in their own little way.

ROLE: The students are producers of a music video that will showcase their self-composed Christmas carol about the
conservation and management of our natural resources.

AUDIENCE: Your teacher will determine if the group was able to convey the message of conservation and resource
management that you have learned in Earth Science through the music video.

SITUATION: The most wonderful time of the year is coming, and what better way to anticipate it is by preparing a
Christmas carol which has long been part of the Filipino tradition during this joyous season. Considering the plight of
natural disasters and pandemic that the world has been continuously facing, this activity will serve as a light to uplift the
spirits of one home to another. The challenge involves establishing the in-depth meaning of the importance of the
conservation and management of our natural resources and incorporating it into a song. Finally, the song should tackle
various informative concepts of Earth Science about Earth Materials and Resources for the product to be both educational
and entertaining.

PRODUCT / PERFORMANCE: Together with your groupmates, you will create a 3-4 minute music video of your
self-composed Christmas carol about the conservation of earth resources (e.g. water, soil, or a combination of any other
resources) while incorporating the key concepts that you have learned in Earth Science. Due to the implementation of
community quarantine, each group is only called to have a VIRTUAL collaboration while ensuring that every member
would have an appearance on the music video no matter how short the exposure may be. Choreographies are not required
but are allowed. The music video will be uploaded in YouTube so that it will reach a broader audience. Citation of sources
should be found alongside the rolling credits at the end of the music video.

STANDARDS FOR SUCCESS: Your product will be evaluated based on the quality of information, lyrical originality
and organization, sound fluency, creativity, video quality, submission, video length, and group cooperation (see rubrics).

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can the length of our music videos exceed the 3-4-minute limit?
-Technically yes you CAN because we cannot control that. However, there will be deductions for that (see rubrics), so you are
encouraged to follow the set limit to avoid incurring deductions.

2. Can we ask someone outside our group (or even a friend that is not part of our class) to sing our Christmas carol on our
behalf?
-No, you are not allowed to ask others to do some parts in your own video. Try to accomplish your video with the best efforts of all
your group members and that will suffice.

3. Can we make a video with the lyrics only (and without our faces)?
-No, because your product is not a lyric video, but a MUSIC VIDEO which should have other elements such as video clips and
pictures of concepts and of course, you! This is also for us to determine whether every member contributed in the making of the music
video.
