1. List all events in the following experiments

a. horse race involving horses A,B,C, & D

- this experiment could have four (4) elementary events in which either of the horses
can possibly win, as the outcome of the race. These events are:

A winning the race by placing first and others don’t, B winning the race by placing first
and others don’t, C winning the race by placing first and others don’t, and D winning the race by
placing first and others don’t.

b. Lotto betting

- lotto betting has two outcomes which is either winning the bet or losing the bet.

2. Identify the appropriate probability approach

a. chance of winning in lotto lottery

- Classical approach – people participating in lottery have equal chances of winning and
the drawing the numbers for combinations, too, has equal chances.

b. number of failures in 50 exams

- Relative Frequency Approach – in certain conditions, the numbers of failure in an exam


can be pre-determined through the results of past exams.
