Installation

Figure A Cutout opening 2” [5 cm] undersize Figure B: Bend lip up 90 degrees

Figure C: Seal with silicone caulk Figure D: Bolt base to roof sheet

1. IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE BEGINNING

a. 692 Series Roof Exhaust Fans fit OVER the roof rib.
b. DO NOT CUT ROOF RIBS
2. Evenly space fans on roof as close as possible to roof peak without creating a dam between the ribs.
Allow 2" [5 cm] minimum drainage gap between Exhaust Fan and adjacent roof ribs (see Figure A)
3. IMPORTANT: Cut holes in roof sheet 2" [5 cm] smaller, 1” [2.5 cm] on each edge, than the base of the
fan. This will require the inside cut to be no closer than 5” [12.7 cm] from the roof rib on each side. (see
Figure A). DO NOT REMOVE ROOF RIB
4. Bend a 1-inch lip up 90° around the perimeter of the opening to match fan base (see Figure B).
5. Seal well with good grade of silicone caulk (see Figure C).
6. Bolt base to roof sheet using 3/8" bin bolts and nuts (see Figure D).
7. INSTALLER’S RESPONSIBILITES
a. Check with the bin/silo roof manufacturer for any required roof reinforcing.
b. Check fan prop after installation to insure that the prop will spin freely and that all motor bolts
are tightened to prevent prop or venturi damage.

See separate motor manual for motor manufacturer maintenance Instructions and motor warranty.

Roof Exhaust Fan Guidelines and Operating Instructions
 Exhaust fans should be evenly spaced with a maximum of 50' [15 M] centerlines between exhaust fans. Roof
exhaust fans should be located as close to the top of sloped roofs as practical and evenly spaced on flat
roofs.
 Exhaust fans should always operate when the main fans are operated.
 Remember hot air continues to rise after the main fans are turned off so the roof exhaust fans should be run
for a minimum of 30-60 minutes (use a timer) after the main fans are turned off to remove all potential
condensation from under the bin / silo roof.
 Potential condensation under the bin or silo roof is always possible whenever there is a 15° F [9° C]
differential between dead air temperature under the bin or silo roof and ambient air temperature. When
sized correctly at 125% to 165% of the main fan full bin or silo CFM potential - operating a roof exhaust fan
with makeup roof vent system will change the under roof temperature to the outside temperature and
reduce the possibility of under roof condensation. The SafeTrack temperature detection system with the
relay control module option will detect potential condensation situations and then automatically control the
roof exhaust fans. (Visit www.safegrain.com for more information on SafeTrack relay control modules).
 For bins and silos without the SafeTrack exhaust fan control system - we recommend manual operation of
just the roof exhaust fans whenever there is a 15° F [9° C] differential between dead air temperature under
the bin or silo roof and ambient air temperature.
 Use make up roof vents sized at 1,000 to 1,500 CFM / FPM per square foot of venting (1,250 CFM / FPM
velocity is a good target) to supply the 25% to 100% excess exhaust capacity required.
 For example:
o Total exhaust air of 51,000 CFM less total main air of 34,000 CFM = 17,000 CFM make up air
o 17,000 CFM make up air / 1,250 FPM
o = Minimum 13.6 Sq. Ft. [1.263 M2]+/- recommended make up vents
 Make up roof vents should be located as physically distant as practical from roof exhaust fans to allow the
make-up air to travel the greatest distance possible to prevent under roof condensation.
