The calm, shallow water spread of the sea, present hardly 100
meters in front of the magnificent temple Gopuram is
reverentially held sacred. A dip in the Agnitheertham is
supposed to remove the sins of the pilgrims. The other
Theerthams in and around the temple are also important for
pilgrims.
The tomb of Sultan Ibrahim Syed Aulia, who came from Arabia
via Cannanore is about 800 years old. Pilgrims from far off
countries like Srilanka, Malaysia etc are visiting the tomb.
Santhanakoodu festival is celebrated in the month of February-
March attracts thousand of pilgrims.

Anna Park is a garden near the lake. A park for children with a
few slides for the kiddies to play around is just next door to
Anna Park.

The first thing that strikes your eye when you are in Yercaud is
the Big Lake. The main attraction of Yercaud is the cool lake
surrounded by greenery all around. It is the biggest lake of the
hill station.

Boating in the Yercaud lake is enchanting and refreshing. The
Anna Park near by is a good picnic spot. Another place of
interest is the “Lady’s Seat”. It provides a breath taking view

This memorial for the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi has
been built on the spot where the urn containing his ashes was
kept for the public to pay their last respects, before immersing

at the confluence of the three seas. This suns rays fall on the
memorial through a narrow irifice exactly on the spot where
the ashes were kept, only once a year on October 2nd
(Mahatma’s Birthday). Truly a testimony to modern
architecture.

it's serene beauty and awe inspiring aesthetics. The entire

beautiful hotel, Sterling Swamimalai. India's only winner of
the Global Eco Tourism Award.

The centre for Visual Arts and Gallery Paintings & Sculptures
is situated at Edappally about l0km from Emakulam and
located next to Museum of Kerala History. It houses about
two hundred original paintings of recognized Indian masters,
both contemporary and of the past. There is also a large
collection of modern sculptures in marble, bronze, granite
etc.

Relatively smaller than Sentinel rock, and rather less
frequented Kanthanampara and its surroundings are none the
less very pleasant. An easy hike away from the main road, it’s
perfect for picnics.

Elephant Sanctuary
If you are wild life lover you should visit the Punnathur Kotta
Elephant Sanctuary located at a distance of about 3 km from
Guruvayur. It is the largest elephant park in the world and you
can see about 60 elephants at the same time.
The State Art Museum and Zoo is located within the same
premise in Trichur. The Museum has an amazing and rare
collection of traditional jewellery, lamps, metal carvings and
sculptures.

Sree Chithra Art Gallery: Located near the Napier Museum, this
art gallery displays select paintings of Raja Ravi Varma,
Svetlova and Nicholas Roerich and exquisite works from the
Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore schools of art in India. The
collection also includes paintings from China, Japan, Tibet and
Bali.
The palace and its sprawling grounds are today the venue for
many cultural meets and programmes.

This picnic spot, where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea,
offers boating facilities. Pedalboats and paddleboats can be
hired to explore the charms of the lagoon in a leisurely manner.
For a quick ride over the waters, speedboats are available for
hire. Children enjoy climbing over the huge sculptures which
dot the landscape.
There are rock cut sculptures of the 18th century in the cave
temple at Vizhinjam. The granite cave here encloses a one-
celled shrine with a loose sculpture of Vinandhara
Dakshinamurthi. The outer wall of the cave depicts half
complete reliefs of the Hindu God Shiva with Goddess Parvathi.

There are many wonderful things you can do at Kumarakom. Wake up early in the
morning for the grandest show on earth. The sunrise. In the mornings, the lake is
calm, misty and sensuous. And the sun breaks with a smile and stretches its arm
across the river to wish you good morning. Take out a ride in one of our boats and
watch waterfowls come to life.

Sanctuary what you shouldn't miss. The best time for
this is between November and March, when a range of
migratory birds from Siberia make it their winter
home. Some of the species include the Snake bird,
Little Cormorant, Crow Pheasant, White-branded water
Hen and Tree pie. Occasionally you can catch the
native kingfishers setting the waters ablaze in a
psychedelic flash of colours. The night herons, the
Golden-backed woodpeckers are added delights. At the

rare bird – some of which, sadly, may not be around
forever
