1. What is Human Behavior? Organizational Behavior?

Human behavior refers to all of a person’s overt physical actions and observable emotions as a response
to internal or external stimuli throughout their life. In simpler words, it is the manner and reasons behind
people’s actions as they interact to the world. Human behavior is a very complex subject matter since it is
influenced by wide array of factors such as race, religion, physical or biological condition, social norms,
environmental influences, and many others.

On the other hand, organizational behavior is the study of how both an individual and group behave,
interact, and perform an activity in an organizational setting. In addition, organizational behavior does not only
focus on people’s behavior as it also covers several elements such as structure, technology, and environment to
get better understanding of one’s behavior in an organization. Through this we could understand the behavior of
an individual in a work environment and actually determine its impact on motivation, leadership, work structure
and others. Organizational behavior does not only explain the behavior of people in an organizational setting but
also it enables predicting behaviors and subsequently control them to attain organization’s goal.

2. What benefits may be derived from studying OB?

Organization is composed of numerous numbers of people and for the organization to be successful, its
people must have a good interaction with each other and work together. However, doing this is not simple since
every individual have different attitudes and response to every situation, thus, the need for studying
organizational behavior arises. By studying organizational behavior gives deeper insight in how people behave
and act in the workplace, and the reason behind it. And by knowing this, we could come up to different
measures or steps that we could do in order to get the people in an organization motivated, effective, efficient,
competent, and cooperative in the work force. In addition, managers could also use it to accomplish the
organizations goals. In addition, organizational behavior generally promotes a conducive workplace where
people in an organization understands each other and build relationship leading them to work effectively with
their colleagues and subordinates.

Moreover, studying organizational development does not only help the organizations’ performance, as a
whole, but also the personal development of its people. Learning about organizational behavior will help an
individual to understand more his/her behaviors, ethical views, and performance, as well as his/her colleagues’
similarities and differences with each other. This attained knowledge would help an individual to develop his
personal and social skills for his/her own betterment.

3. When does conflict of interest exist?

In a workplace, it is expected that every employee and people in the organization will perform their
respective duties in a way that it will serve the entity’s interest. A conflict of interest arises when an
employee/individual’s judgement, decision, or action is being compromised as the entity’s interest and his/her
personal or self-serving interest clashes. It is considered as an ethical misconduct since it is expected that in an
organization, especially in a workplace, people or employees are fair, honest, and always act to the benefit of
the organization without intentionally harming customers, clients, and competitors. Anyone in an organization
could commit such misconduct, however, the higher the position or the greater responsibility that the person
who will commit this has, the greater the impact or effect it will have in the organization itself.

A conflict of interest would result to financial loss or worst fraud that could create bad image to the
corporation and subsequently lose the public’s trust. Thus, the organization should carefully manage and
observe this ethical misconduct and it can be done through establishing strict policies and regulations which
identifies situation in the environment that could possibly cause conflict of interest and how to avoid them.
Moreover, organization should frequently do an integrity check on its people/employees.
