Q4. Why do you think there are very few cases of private water supply in the world?
A4. * Water supply is one of the public facilities under the right to water act according to UN.
• Private companies mainly operates to earn the profits throughout the world.
• Private company would provide water but at a higher price which isn’t affordable by people of
all sections.
• So there are very few cases of private water supply in the world.
Q5. What are public facilities? Why are the most of the private hospitals and schools located in major
cities and towns but not in villages?
A5. Public facilities are facilities provided by the government which relates to the basic needs of the
people and their benefits can be shared by everyone.
Q6. How is the water supply for Chennai and nearby cities maintained by private suppliers?
A 6. * The scarcity of water made a way for private companies to make profit.
• Private suppliers supply water to the cities buying it from places around the city.
• Which companies take water to Chennai from nearby towns like Mamandur, Palur and from
villages to the north of the city using a fleet of 13000 water tanker.
• For this the water dealers pay an advance to the farmers every month for the right to exploit
water sources on their lands.
