Early life ‫ا ا ز‬

We came to know from our ّ ‫رے ا‬ ‫م ا‬ ‫ری ا ّ ں ز‬

mother that our father, who
was the District Magistrate in ‫ہ‬ ‫ار‬ ‫ا ر‬
the Department of Irrigation, ، ،
had been posted for some time
in Chhatari estate in the ‫۔‬ ‫دی‬ ‫ری ا‬ ‫و ن‬
Bulandshahr district of UP, ‫۔‬ ‫ا م ا‬
India.

‫ا ا۔‬ 1932 23
I was born there in the wee
hours of 23rd of November in ‫و‬ ‫ی ا‬ ‫ری وا ہ‬
‫۔ ان ا ی‬ ‫ ل‬26
1932. Mother was about 26 at
the time. She had a great knack
for Instantly befriending ‫دو‬ ‫ا‬ ‫وہ ی ی‬
women of all ages; That was
how despite stark difference in ‫اب ری‬ ‫۔ و‬
the social status of the two ‫ا ی دو ر اور‬ ‫ان م ا‬
families, all the fairer members
of the Nabob Chattari’s ‫ری‬ ‫رے ر و د ا‬ ‫ا آ‬
household were on very ‫اب اور رے وا ا‬
friendly terms with her and
mutual visits were common. ‫۔‬ ‫ہ‬
 ‫ا‬ ‫رے وا‬
After a while our father was
transferred to district Mathura
in UP. It was a major urban ‫ں‬ ‫ں‬ ‫ا‬ ‫۔‬
‫ا ا‬ ‫ں‬ ‫۔ را‬ ‫آ دی‬
centre with a tiny Muslim
community. Hindus there were
in thundering majority with a ‫ر ں ۔ د‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ڑے‬ ‫۔‬
prominent temple at every
corner. Sadhus clad in saffron ‫۔‬ ‫آ‬ ‫وا ے‬
were virtually omnipresent. ّ‫۔ ںا‬ ‫آ‬ ‫ں‬ ‫ا‬
Cows were often spotted
roaming the streets. My father ‫م‬ ‫اور اس‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ن وہ‬
rented a place on the first floor ‫وازہ ۔‬ ‫ڈ‬
of a house in the Deck Gate
locality of the city.
