Description
For applications requiring audible/visible notification
with continuous horn tones, these Simplex 4903 series
appliances combine a high intensity strobe with a low
current electronic horn. The horn output provides a
steady, harmonically rich sound that can be easily coded
by the controlling notification appliance circuit (NAC).
The combination horn and strobe can be wired to the
same NAC, or, for applications requiring separate audible
and visible circuits, jumpers located at the wiring
terminals can be easily removed.
Audible/visible appliance combinations are available in a
variety of visible intensity levels and with red or off-white
rectangular housings. Models are available for horizontal
or vertical mounting because a compound, multi-surface
reflector is used to provide symmetrical light output in the
key axis directions.
The strobe lens assembly fits securely into its housing,
providing a high integrity notification appliance that is
impact and vandal resistant, and suitable for a variety of
applications.

Synchronized Strobes
When multiple visible appliances and their reflections can
be seen from one location, synchronized flashes reduce
the probability of photosensitive reactions. Synchronizing
modules are available to control the flashes of Simplex
synchronized flash models* at a rate of 1 Hz using the
existing two wire visible notification appliance circuit
(NAC). (Refer to accessories on page 3 for synchronizing
modules.)
If standard strobe models are connected to a synchronized
NAC, they will operate in a free-running, unsynchronized
mode.
Application Reference
Proper selection of visible notification is dependent on
occupancy, location, local codes, and proper application
of the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72),
ANSI/CABO A117.1, the appropriate model building
code, BOCA, ICBO, or SBCCI, and the application
guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
