CHAPTER IV

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research is defined as human activity based on intellectual application in the
investigation of matter. The primary purpose for applied research is discovering, interpreting,
and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of human knowledge on a
wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe. Research can use the
scientific method, but need not do so. Scientific research relies on the application of the
scientific method, a harnessing of curiosity.
This research provides scientific information and theories for the explanation of the
nature and the properties of the world around us. It makes practical applications possible.
Scientific research is funded by public authorities, by charitable organizations and by private
groups, including many companies. Scientific research can be subdivided into different
classifications according to their academic and application disciplines.
Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the research problem. The
research methodology in the present study deals with research design, data collection
methods, sampling methods, survey, analysis and interpretations.

3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN

Research Design
Research design is a link between what has been established and what needs to be done in
conducting the study to achieve the goal. Descriptive research design was the research design
used in this study.
Sampling Method
A technique for choosing a sample from a statistical population so that any sample that may
be chosen has a predetermined likelihood of being chosen.
Sample Size
The sampling technique is a significant choice to be made on the size of the sample. Sample
size implies sampling amount. The chosen sample size for this research is 150.

Sampling technique: The researcher has adopted the Convenient Sampling Technique.

Population Size
All the things under account are a ' universe ' or ' population ' in any field of investigation. A
complete list of all the items in the ' population ' is referred to as a census survey. The chosen
population size for this research is 460.
3.2 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
 This study helps the company to know about their current Training method of organization
 This study helps to know the human resource department of the organization
 This project report will be help for the organization to know the quality of training
programme
3.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
Primary objective:

To study the effectiveness of training and development programme Conducted by RANE

TRW company, Trichy.

Secondary objective:

To analyze how the training helps the organization development.

To study the impact of training and development on overall productivity of the organization

To analyze the training method used to the employee and how they are evaluated.

3.4 SOURCE OF DATA

Primary Source
Primary data refers to the data that was collected first hand, directly from the source. This
consisted of interviews and discussions with the managers, employees. The main data was
collected through structured undisguised questionnaire.
Secondary Source
Secondary data refers to the data that was previously collected by others for another purpose.
It includes: Company Website, Internet, Manuals and Research Papers and Books.

3.5 STATISTICAL TOOLS USED

The researcher used,
1. Percentage analysis.
2. Reliability analysis.
3. Chi-square.
4. Correlation.
5. Factor analysis.
6. Multiple Regressions.
3.6 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Perception constraint - Also, Employees have a tendency to underestimate their skills

before training and over estimate their skills post training to validate their participation in the
training program. In this way it is seen that it is difficult to comprehensively evaluate or
capture the effectiveness of a training program.

Time constraint - While getting all the questionnaires filled, I faced that most of the
employee’s didn’t want to respond because of the limited time they had. I faced a lot of
problem while convincing them.

Sample size constraint - As the employee base of the organization is about 460 employees,
so it was very difficult to cover all the employees in this survey. Number of employee
covered in this survey is limited to the sample size of 150 employees only. This limits the
scope of the project study and the analysis may not represent the whole population.
