PROBLEM:

Most of the LGBT community are facing bullying through anti-gay verbal
harassment, discrimination, and physical violence These types of mistreatment were
associated with lower self-esteem and a 2-fold increase in the odds of reporting suicidal
ideation. This problem may lead to suicide. Given the potentially life-threatening nature
of these acts and their psychological correlates, health care professionals and
policymakers should attend to the effects of harassment, discrimination, and violence on
young gay men if they hope to improve the lives of this vulnerable population.
