Chapter 7 Managing Human Resources

Human Resource Management (HRM) is the term used to describe formal systems devised
for the management of people within an organization. Human resources managers oversee the
most vital element of a successful business, a productive, thriving workforce. This needs
viewing individuals as human assets, not costs to the organization. As with any other asset, a
proficient workforce may be used strategically to add value to a company.

team how to strategically manage individuals as business resources. This includes recruiting
and hiring staff with specific skill sets to fulfill the company's current and future goals,
coordinating staff benefits and suggesting employee training and development strategies. In
this method, Human Resource (HR) professionals are consultants, not staff in an isolated
business function; they advise managers on several issues related to staff and how they assist

thereby helping the company adapt successfully to its environment. In this flexible company,
staff are shifted around to different business functions based on business priorities and staff
preferences. During the interview Mr.Tan also told about their- in-house Training

level of the employees.

Human Resource (HR) professionals also recommend strategies for increasing staff
commitment to the company. This begins with using the recruiting process or matching staff
with the proper positions in line with their qualifications. Once hired, staff must be
committed to their jobs and feel challenged throughout the year by their manager. Mr.Tan

performance of the employees. Individual department will provide the headcount needed to

allocation accordingly and Supervisor or Manager will make necessary changes when needed
within the department to have the best performance.

The Human Resource Management (HRM) team helps a business develop a competitive
advantage, that involves building the capacity of the company thus it can offer a unique set of
goods or services to its customers. To build the effective human resources, private companies
compete with one another in a "war for talent." It's not just about hiring talent, this game is
about keeping staff and helping them grow and keep committed over the long term.

Human Resource Management (HRM) needs strategic planning to address not only the
changing desires of an employer but also a constantly shifting competitive job market. Staff
benefit packages should be continually assessed for costs to the employer. Tweaking the
packages also provides a chance to increase staff retention through the addition of vacation
days, flexible working arrangements or retirement plan enhancements. For instance, in recent
years several human resource professionals have overseen the addition of preventative health
components to traditional health plans for both employment recruitment and retention efforts.
