Preface

The main objective of this thesis is to explore and expose Maria’s

victimization in Paulo Coelho’s Eleven Minutes. The problems faced by Maria from
the time of contact with Roger to the present status are studied in this thesis.

The “Introduction” talks about Brazilian literature in general and landscape.

The chapter also introduces the author and his literary works that showcases him as a
dedicated Brazil writer. The chapter divisions and the topics to be discussed are also
mentioned.

The “Desire and Sex” talks about Maria’s desire which leads her to become a
prostitute. She wants to have fame and fortune for herself and to her family. She also
has a desire to find true love and a man who will accept and love her despite of
everything.

The “Feminism in Relation to Identity” shows how Maria lost her identity and
quest for identity. The chapter also insist on feministic view and search for identity.

The “Devil and Angel” calls for vital changes that leads to ensure better living
standard. Through different peoples relationship Paulo Coelho says that there is a
transformation in Maria’s life.

The “Summation” points to the fact that Maria’s issues are not those from the
past, but is that which exists even now. The women position in this world needs
improvement. The fact that subtle feminism has not disappeared is also stressed. A
recap of the discussion and findings made in all the other chapters are summed up. It
also talks about the possibility of further areas of study based on their author and
works.
