Open Strings Chart for Alternative Tuning

With the altgitarr reaching far lower than a standard guitar its bass register causes an
issue with notation. Keeping the same treble clef would accumulate up to six leger
lines, but adding a new stave with a bass clef for only a few notes would probably not
be the most space efficient. The common solution is to notate the bass string notes
one octave higher adding an octava sign(8), either for a single note or a section.
There is not an exact cut off point but rather decided considering the context, always
aiming for maximum clarity.

In the elementary exercises we are essentially looking at practising strings 7 to 11.


To simplify and aid legibility in these exercises, an(8) - sign below the stave is used
to indicate that the whole bass line (stem point in down) should be played an octave
lower. For any exceptions where the note should be played as notated , the prevalent
(loco) is used together with circled number indicating string.
