Bass Strings Only Exercises

1. 2 strings descending thumb plays rest strokes, muting string above. Rest
fingers i,m and a on top strings. After playing half notes thumb mutes the
string below as indicated with a mute sign and string number:

Thumb plays rest strokes muting string above when descending
On Quarter note rest, mute bass note with the outer side of the thumb as
indicated

of the thumb
When ascending: thumb plays rest strokes, muting string above

Quickly planting thumb on consequent note will mute over-ringing
After playing half note, thumb mutes the string below as indicated
9. Thumb mutes the string below on the 2nd beat of the bar as indicated
Let string 1 be sustained, plant finger i on string 3 for support
In the penultimate bar, use left hand index finger to mute strings 6 to 10
