Lag Screw

Presented by: Yahul Mazfar

Introduction
Was introduce in 1970 by Brons and Boering for Mandibular fracture fixation

This methode is based on the principle that an axial tensile stress within the screw
is turn into a compressive stress acting on the fracture surface.
Lag screw mechanism
Indication for lag screw
Factor limiting its use are:

Fracture localization

Fracture gap pattern

Regional anatomical situation

Surgeons/operator
Indication of lag screw:

Fracture of symphseal region

Fracture of angle region

Spesific fracture types such as sagital fracture

A typical indication for lag screw fixation fracture in the chin region > strong
cortical bone > as excellent buttress and no neurovascular bundle
Advantages of lag screw
Axial compression of the fragments with complete adaptation of the fracture
surface

Low cost

Save time

Material can be remove easyly
