EXPERIMENT# 5,
"To determine the effect of length/diameter ratio on accuracy of machining
by varying the diameter of work piece.
— Fa turteing operation performed by the Iathe machine depends
‘The accuracy of machining 61
‘on a munber of parameters, The scope of this experiment is to find out how the effect of
engthidismeter ratio on accuracy of w turing process performed by the lathe machine
varies with diameter,
Apparatus:-
Lathe machine:
Micrometer
Dial indicator.
Magnetic mand
machine and holding it like 2inch grip length plus TOinch working length.
$2, Divide und mark the working length into five equally spaced L/D ratios,
iene, Faas 9°10"),
3-3. Now cheek the total run out error by installing the magnetic stand. with dial indicator
(heer type) On the Slide as briefed.
3-4. Install the lover of dial indicator with some tension by taking first position (ix.
fn Ihe work pisve extension length then rotate the bezel (revolving scale) to zero.
After positioning the dial indicator, rotate the chuck by hand at 360°and note the total
Indicating reading in the ble,
5-5, Repeut he same procedure by taking four L/D miios further and note down
the totatinclicaring readting én the tible accordingly.
Affer calculating the: maximum run out (*TIR "otal indicating reading) apply the depth
of cut accordingly and machine the whole working length.
5-8, Now, measure the initial diameter at five equally spaced L/D ratios and note the
measurement in the table provided.
3-9. Now apply“ Imm’ depth of cut anid muichine the job,
$-10.After machining whole working tength measure and note the required, obtuined
diameters of job also differcace of reading at five equally spaced L/D ratios in the
table (1st observation),
$411 Now apply imum’ dept of cut again and machine the job,
$42. After machining measure and note the required, obtained dinmeter of job und difference
of seating at five equilly spaced L/D ratios in the 2nd observation table.
$-13,Compare the diffrence by-changing the length/dinmeter ratio and conchide the
‘Temarks necordingly
54.ditions should remain constant except diameter of job.
