o CALL FOR PAPERS
w for Special Section on
dSoftwarized Networking for Next Generation Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems
sTheme: With the emergence of embedded and ubiquitous cyber physical applications, the rationale of blending the physical and the
virtual worlds have become ever promising. These developments have driven the evolution of industrial Cyber-Physical Systems
e(CPSs); typically characterized as smart systems with encapsulated hardware and software units. Specifically, the term CPS refers to the
physical processes amalgamated with computational capabilities to seamlessly capture, monitor and control the real-world entities and
nscenarios. The progressive transformation of host-centric networking to information-centric networking like content-centric networking,
data-oriented network architecture, named data networking, etc. have led to plethora of research challenges, i.e., heterogenous data
sgeneration, bulk data transmission, rapidly changing cache states, and greater request arrival rates. Further, the assimilation of service-
oriented architecture, cloud computing, the IoT, big data, and the industrial Internet, with CPS units is expected to explode data
igeneration, transmission, and analysis probabilities. Along these lines, the emergence of futuristic mobile communication networks like
5G (and beyond) is forecasted to enhance volume, real-time velocity and diversity of data in standard CPSs. Towards this direction, it is
ninevitable to examine and scrutinize the versatility of integrating different high-performance networking paradigms such as Software
Defined Networks, Intent Based Networks, Network Function Virtualization, etc. with the existing CPSs. These softwarized networking
gparadigms rely on network programmability in order to deliver services and applications with greater agility and cost effectiveness
while enabling better provisioning of network resources. Therefore, to promote productivity, improve efficiency, and ensure the
efficient handling of continuous growing data, it is highly desirable to bridge the design, operation, and management of industrial CPSs
with the state-of-the-art networking paradigms. This will facilitate the uninterrupted and coherent networking opportunities amongst
different cyber physical applications and physical objects while processing the data with minimum delays. Thus, this special issue aims
to bring together the leading researchers, both from academia and industry, to share their new ideas, recent findings, and state-of-the-art
solutions related to the integration of softwarized networks with computation intensive industrial CPSs. We solicit papers that present
novel frameworks, introduce new methodologies, propose new research directions, and discuss strategies for resolving networking
challenges associated with hosting the CPSs in the next generation Internet-based communities.
