 Foreword
Flibbertigibbet is a concept I conjured up a few years ago. I have had many tarot readings in the past as well as other methods of divination and it always
struck me that I, as the sitter, had very little interaction with the reader. Of course, the reader is the guide and the gifted one, and of course I would cut and
mix the cards, but at the same time I felt that my involvement in the situation was very little. I wanted to be more involved with the reader and have some

tactile experience. Then it struck me: life is a game that we all play; we may not be aware that we are playing, but events, including people's behaviour,
choices and values, usually have consequences.

Each of us has made up, largely unconsciously, a set of rules (our values) based on our world view which has a direct effect on our future, our direction in life
and ultimately, the outcome of almost everything we do. If this is the case why couldn’t we bring that game element into tarot and other card based reading
systems? Life has an element of chance, an element of choice, and Flibbertigibbet will allow you to use these factors in your reading.

You may read this manual and observe that the roll of a dice has the same random nature as mixing a deck of cards: in each situation, the outcome cannot
be known in advance. Although our values shape our destiny, we are not always in control of events heading our way. Taking this into account, the reader
and the sitter can have a playful’ back and forth dialogue that will make your readings more interesting and it will leave your client in a positive frame of
mind. They can even take something physical away with them from the reading which I will discuss later.

Instead of giving spread readings or a reading based on a number of cards, the spread type and the number are based on the roll of a dice, the sitter’s choice
of destiny and their subconscious priorities. Sounds complicated, I know, but do this once and you will have mastered the simple steps and will be able to
give a full Flibbertigibbet reading with ease.

Please note that I will be referring to the Spiritus Claritas cards in this book; however, you can use any fortune telling deck you wish.
 Set-up

Hand the remaining four cards to the sitter and tell them to mix them up. I ask
them to place the cards on the table face down and mix them, encouraging them
to turn them around while they mix them. The aim is to get a mix of inverted

Facing your sitter, give them the deck of cards and ask them to mix them well
while at the same time relaxing and clearing their mind of any trouble and
distracting thoughts.

Place one of the Destiny cards in the centre of the table.

You are now ready to begin the reading.

 The Tokens
F
Ask the sitter to hold the bag, place their fingers inside and to concentrate on a
question or think about something that is important to them at this moment in
life. Ask them to touch the tokens, pass them between their fingers, transferring
those thoughts and feelings into the objects.

You explain that life can be considered a game where destiny, chance and spiritual
elements all combine to present a path through life. Although we may change
the direction of some of these paths, not all of them can be altered. Sometimes
we are in charge of our destiny, sometimes we are not. Like in a game, sometimes
it is your turn to move, sometimes it is the other player’s turn and what they do
during their go will effect what happens to you next.
You pass the sitter the velvet bag containing the four life tokens, each representing
an important element of life. The order in which they remove these tokens from
the bag will decide what is most important or critical to them right now.
When they are ready, ask them to remove the first token from the bag. The first
token represents the matter most important to them at that time.
You then ask them to place the first token on any of the four destiny cards (not
the top sideways one).
You then move this card into the 12 o’clock position of the sideways destiny card
as shown in the image below.

Red – an emotionally intense colour associated with passion,

desire, love and romance.

Gold – finance, career, money matters, material wealth,

success, prosperity and luxury.

Black – the hidden, the unknown, uncertainty, secrets and

dark matters you need to be aware of.

Clear – a matter that requires clarity, questions, spiritual The sitter takes a second life token from the bag and places it on any of the
guidance, direction. remaining three destiny cards. This card is moved into the 3 o’clock position and
the process is repeated for the 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions.
In this example, the sitter has shown that, first and foremost, they have an
important issue that needs clarifying; they require guidance in the matter. This
matter may well be connected with relationships or love life as their second draw
was the red token.

The third is the gold token, representing money and career. As this is in third
place, it can be assumed that they do not have any looming money or career issues,
but they are still conscious of the matters you will cover in the reading.

Finally, they selected the black token. In fourth place, this would indicate they
do not have any dark or pressing matters currently, but your reading will give
them a heads-up’ of things they should be aware of.

As you can see, even at this stage you are able to give an intermediate reading
purely based on the stones they drew from the bag.
 Destiny Cards

As we can see from the image, the sitter may control their destiny in money and
love matters, yet when it comes to clarity and potentially dark outside influences,
they are unable to control what will occur. Although they are not in charge of
their destiny in these matters, they are forewarned and therefore able to face the
matters head on and prepared.
Here we discuss the purpose of the destiny cards. These symbolize whether the
sitter can influence their destiny associated with its designated token and the
reading that will follow.

Ask the sitter to turn the first destiny card over. If the eye faces the centre of the
cross (the centre representing them) then they are in control of their destiny
regarding what follows in the reading. As a result they get to draw the cards for
that particular reading.

If the eye faces outwards, the sitter does not have control over their destiny
regarding that particular matter. When this occurs, the reader will draw the
cards for the reading instead of the sitter.
Drawing the Cards

The dice is rolled by whoever controls the destiny of the matter at hand. The
number of cards drawn for that particular token is dependent on the number rolled.

For example: rolling a 3 would mean the sitter or reader can take 3 random cards
from the deck. The number rolled also has a significance of how far the oracle
can see into the matter at hand.

I use the analogy and compare the dice rolls with the weather. The higher the
number, the clearer the sky becomes and the more information the oracle can see.

Rolling a 1 would give a one card reading for that particular token. This would
indicate that the oracle is unclear; it is cloudy and unable to gather more From the example, on the image above we can see that –
information, possibly due to shifting factors, outside influences or a newly formed
event. - For clarity, we will give a 2 card reading;

Rolling a 6 would be a full 6 card reading for the token in question. The oracle
can see everything it needs unhindered and clear.
In our example the reader rolls a 2 for clarity (the eye of destiny faces away from
the centre, therefore the reader rolls the dice and selects the cards).
- For love/romance, we will give a 4 card reading;
- For career/finance, we will give a 1 card reading;
- For hidden matters, we will give a 3 card reading.

have regarding money and/or career. This is not a negative thing; it simply
means that there are parts of their life that are in flux and other, more important,
matters have pushed them to the back of the oracle’s vision.
 The Reading
F
At this stage you have already engaged lots with your sitter. Little tasks have
been completed, dice have been passed back and forth and a picture regarding the
actual reading (which has not even happened yet!) has already been formed.

You have been able to give two intermediate readings based only on the tokens
drawn and the dice rolled. From the sitter’s perspective, they have had a close
and fun interaction with you as the reader and you have not even given them their
full reading!

Before we start this final stage, we can also give a timescale regarding each aspect
of the reading. The person who is charge of the particular token’s destiny rolls
the dice once more.
In our example, the reader rolls the dice for the clarity token. He rolls a 3. This
indicates that the following two card reading covers the maximum of a three
month period.
For love and romance the sitter rolls (as they control their destiny in this matter)
and gets a 1. This indicates that whatever you are about to tell them from the
cards will happen fast, within one month maximum!
NOW the actual reading begins!
The reading is given from the centre outwards, the innermost cards being the
In our example, using the Spiritus Claritas cards, we can see that the sitter
requires some clarity in a matter that may involve a recent upset. They are sad
or upset about something or they may have upset another person close to them.
Maybe their mother, relative or a friend who has recently had a baby. As you, the
reader, drew these cards, it would indicate that the sitter has no real control over
the destiny and outcome of the situation as it is the hands of others. Whatever
has happened to cause the rift, the other party will make the first move towards
reconciliation. As it is also only a two card reading, the episode is still unclear,
so maybe it happened recently and the dust is still yet to settle before a clear path
can be navigated.
This continues around the spread until all four tokens have been read.

Ending the Reading

If you are feeling particularly generous, you may offer them two tokens: one for
the most positive as additional luck and one for the most negative as protection.

This part for me is the jewel in the crown of the Flibbertigibbet reading system
and will make your reading even more memorable for months and possibly years
to come: a material gift for your sitter to take away as a talisman or charm will
further enhance their whole experience.
Once the reading is over, you can ask the sitter which element of the reading
troubles them the most, or conversely, which part they liked the most?
Whatever they choose I can guarantee that the power of such small material tokens
of kindness and encouragement will give you and the sitter a very warm, fulfilled
and positive close to an unusual type of reading.
Of course you will need to replace your tokens, but these will cost mere pennies
to replace. It may be wise to stock up if you plan on hosting a reading table at an
event.

They may say that although their love/romance reading was unclear, it does give
them an optimistic outlook.

They may say that the gold token reading echoed their worries about money and
that it is something they will continue to worry about.

Here I give the sitter an opportunity to take one of the tokens away with them.
I tell them that during the reading, the token has absorbed the positive spiritual
energy from the experience, even if the reading was regarding a negative subject.
The positive energy that surrounded us in this room today is still here and you
can take a piece of that away with you.

Tell them to take a token which they feel they need the most
luck/protection/motivation for and tell them to keep it in their purse or wallet as
a talisman.
 Conclusion

As you can see, by incorporating a game style element and the use of tokens and
destiny cards to control and influence the reading we can give the sitter much
more of a positive experience. The interactions of selecting the tokens, the order
in which they are chosen, the facing of the destiny cards, the use of dice to

determine the amount of cards in the reading and the timescale give you the tools
to give a reading before the actual proper one even occurs.

You can add this to a standard tarot reading to give the sitter more bang for their
buck’, or you can simply use the provided Spiritus Claritas cards. Either way,
your sitter will walk away from a positive experience and that in itself has to be
worth every penny!
