Family planning

Family planning is the planning of when to have children, and the use of birth control and other
techniques to implement such plans. Other techniques commonly used include sexuality
education, prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections, pre-conception
counseling and management, and infertility management.

Family planning is sometimes used as a synonym or euphemism for the use of birth control,
however, it often includes a wide variety of methods, and practices that are not birth control. It is
most usually applied to a female-male couple who wish to limit the number of children they have
and/or to control the timing of pregnancy (also known as spacing children). Family planning
may encompass sterilization, as well as abortion.

Family planning services are defined as "educational, comprehensive medical or social activities
which enable individuals, including minors, to determine freely the number and spacing of their
children and to select the means by which this may be achieved".

1. Role of Government

The government's efforts in dealing with demographic one is family planning. The vision
of the national family planning program has been changed to realize the quality family in 2015.
The family of quality is a family of prosperous, healthy, advanced, independent, ideal number of
children, with vision of future, responsible, harmonious (Saifudin, 2003). National Family
Planning Program is one program in order to reduce the population growth rate. One of the
principal in the National Family Planning program is to collect and invite all potential
communities to participate actively in the institute and cultivate Norma Small Family Happy
Prosperous in order to improve the quality of Indonesian human resources. The means used to
realize Norma Small Family Happy Prosperous birth spacing is set by using the tool kontrasepi
(Wiknjosastro, 2005).
Various methods of contraception is the intra-uterine devices (IUDs), implants, syringes,
condoms, operative methods for women (tubal ligation), operative method for men (vasectomy),
and the contraceptive pill (Saifuddin, 2003) The lack of government's role in promoting the
program KB occupation results in a high increase that will increase in the high population
growth will lead to increased demand for health services, education, employment fairly, have an
impact on rising unemployment and poverty (Herlianto, 2008). A good way in the selection of
contraceptives is a mother searching for information in advance about the ways family planning
based on the information that is complete, accurate and true. For that in deciding a way
konstrasepsi should consider the use of contraception rational, effective and efficient.
KB is a program that works for a couple to delay the first birth (post poning), child spacing
(spacing) or limit (limiting) the desired number of children in accordance with the medical safety
and the possible return of fertility phase (ferundity) (Sheila, 2000). Health education is an
important aspect of family planning and reproductive health because besides helping clients to
choose and decide what kind of contraception to be used according to his choice, also assist
clients in using the contraceptive longer and more satisfied clients and ultimately increase the
success of family planning programs. Health education not only provide information, but also
provide expertise and confidence that is useful for improving health (Efendy, 2003). With
awareness because of the information about the different kinds of contraceptives with their
respective advantages, the mothers are motivated to use contraception. Because motivation is the
urge to perform an act or behavior, motivation can come from inside or outside (Moekijat, 2002).
The media is one way to convey information. One example is a flip chart media often referred to
as the chart behind which is a collection of summaries, schematics, drawings, tables are opened
in sequence based on the topic of learning materials suitable for teaching a small group of 30
people (Nursalam, 2008). Besides this chart is able to provide a summary of the key points of a
presentation to convey a message or a certain impression but able to influence and motivate a
person's behavior (Syafrudin, 2008).

The government agency that takes care of the family planning program is BKKBN (National
Population and Family Planning. This body has the task of carrying out government duties in the
field of population control and the implementation of family planning. In performing the tasks
referred to in Article 43 that the Board has the functions:
• The formulation of national policy in the field of population control and the implementation of
family planning
• Establishment of norms, standards, procedures, and criteria in the field of population control
and the implementation of family planning;
• Implementation of advocacy and coordination in the field of population control and the
implementation of family planning;
• Implementation of communication, information, and education in the field of population
control and the implementation of family planning;
• Implementation of monitoring and evaluation in the field of population control and the
implementation of family planning;
• Coaching, mentoring, and facilitation in the field of population control and the implementation
of family planning.

2. Family planning, The Right Solution At Family

The high population in Indonesia is an impact in various sectors. One of the crucial face

Where the whole family must have invested moto two children is better.
Each of the newly married couple shall know the benefits of family planning in order to plan for
the future with a better family. Family planning is a government program in order to control the
population also increases the level of welfare. So who says many children a lot of luck? If yet in
the end will only increase the population in excessive amounts. The state also will get adverse
effects.
In the circle of certain group of people, family planning is still underestimated even taboo. It is
often associated with the notion that many children much sustenance. However, in fact, along
with the high demands of life as well as the difficult economic conditions, a lot of families with
many children are under the line prosper. This should be taken into consideration for the young
couple to their welfare more planned in the future.
One important factor that must be taken into consideration in establishing a family is the
financial factor. It is undeniable that the financial problems are often the root problem within a
family as it is a factor that determines the purchasing power and the fulfillment of the needs of a
family.
By following the family planning program, a young newly married couples can concentrate to
stabilize its financial situation first and plan to have children. With a better financial situation,
the couple can meet the needs of their children better, including in planning for the future, for
example, the quality of education that can be provided.
Family Planning (KB) of course has many advantages. One of them is by taking the
contraceptive pill can prevent the occurrence of uterine and ovarian cancer. Even with planning a
pregnancy a safe, healthy and desirable is one important factor in reducing the maternal mortality
rate. This means that the program can provide health and economic benefits.
According to the Head of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN), Dr
Sugiri Syarif, Family Planning provide economic benefits to couples, families and communities,
this planning should be owned by every family including the bride.
Birth control has the benefit (profit) real health, although the use of tools / contraceptive drugs
have side effects and risks that are sometimes detrimental to health, however, benefit the use of
tools / contraceptive drugs will be greater than not using contraception gives the risk of
morbidity and maternal deaths.
KB program also determines the quality of the family, because the program can save the lives of
women and improving maternal health status, especially in preventing unwanted pregnancy,
birth spacing distance reduces the risk of infant mortality. In addition to giving economic
benefits to couples, families and communities, KB also help teenagers mangambil decision to
choose a better life with the planning process of reproduction.
Family Planning (FP) is a government program designed to balance the needs and population.
Family planning programs by the government is that the family as the smallest unit of life of the
nation is expected to receive Norma Small Family Happy and Prosperous (NKKBS) growth-
oriented balance. Movement of National Family Planning Indonesia has very long-lived, namely
in the '70s and the world community considers successful in reducing birth rates significantly.
