The purpose of this paper is to identify three important aspects of performance


appraisal.
Factors influencing performance appraisal:
Performance appraisal is carried out once a year. Normally the annual review of
performance takes place at the beginning of next year as the performance assessed
based on the calendar year.
The appraisal is done based on some key factors which is determined at the beginning
of the year. Depending on the organizational goal and departmental functionality the
appraisal depends on following factors
- Business Objectives: Employees rate themselves according to their achievement
throughout the year. There is a guideline for which they mark the achievements
in numeric numbers thus rate themselves. Rating is usually 1 to 5, 1 being the
best and 5 being the worst performance
- Business Strategies: Employees explain what strategies they work over to achieve
this certain goal. What are their driving simulation and how they have worked
with the team to achieve personal as well as team objectives.
- Barriers: Employees are encouraged to discuss their struggles, barriers they faced
to achieve the goal.
Process:
The whole appraisal is done in a automated process. Once the employee appraises
themselves they sent it to the Team Head and Team Head then review the appraisal.
Based on Team Heads observation they usually appraise on Team work, Leadership,
Audit performance etc. and forward it to the next authority. Usually, when the Team
Head review the appraisal, they rate the employees as well. If the rating is lower than
the employee’s expectation, employee gets a notification and thus can seat with the
Team Head to have a discussion.
Appraiser:
Team Head or the Line Manager is the appraiser of individuals.
