Fine Design Weekly Report

Weekly Progress:
● This week we are preparing our documentation that will be included with the final report
and the project submission. The reason why we are working on our documentation right
now is twofold. We do not have the content for the documentation but we are going to
set up the structure and include the topic blanks. We are doing this because there is a
great benefit of establishing the document structure when there is less of a time
constraint, because we are able to make better document design choices. Additionally,
we do not have access to the car that we need to scan. It is hard to coordinate with the
poor weather that Indiana has been giving. Another thing we are working on is looking
into purchasing a scan if we are not able to scan the car in a reasonable amount of time.
This includes scans of lotus models, scans of lotus parts that are already done, etc.
There are even some 3D solid models we can purchase.
● If we go the route of purchasing a model of the car online, we would still like to be able to
create our own scan so we can be sure our design fits.
● We are kind of at a stand still until we get the 3D scan. We are trying to figure out what
we can do to utilize this time.
Next Week Plans:
● Next week, the weather should have a daily average above the freezing point, so we
have a lot of hope of being able to scan the car on Tuesday. That is our most important
plan and step that we are depending on for the moment.
● While we wait to get a scan of the vehicle, the group will be coming up and sketching
designs to help figure out how we should model our prototype.
Additional Information for Carlos/Zach:
● Carlos - Would Tuesday, 2/23 work for us to scan? We really don’t want to scan later
than this date if possible. The weather should be above melting and roads free. The
snow around your garage should be easy to move
● If we had to purchase a scan already done of a lotus, is there a way Purdue could fund
that since it is directly for our project?
● If we were going to incorporate “practical testing” later on this semester, could we take
the car to the race track and have Purdue support the testing financially?
