Identity

Proof of identity
You indicated that you have a valid passport.
Remember, your passport must have more than three months to expiry at the time you submit your
application.
You'll need to give your passport details and upload a clear scan or photograph of your passport's
picture page at the start of your application.

Additional evidence if your documents are in a different name

You indicated that you have never changed your name.
Remember, if any of your documents are in a different name, we'll ask you to upload evidence of
your name change so we can confirm your identity.
Some examples of evidence are a marriage, civil partnership or divorce certificate, or a deed poll
notification.
Your evidence must be issued by the relevant official body and should clearly show your old and
new name(s).

Your qualification may meet our eligibility criteria

You indicated that you have a qualification in nursing or midwifery that has or would allow you to
register in the profession in your country of training.
The easiest way to demonstrate this when you submit your application is to provide evidence to
show you have registered with the relevant regulator in your country of training. We'll contact your
regulator to confirm your registration.
If your regulator is unable to confirm this, for example if you have not completed a registration
examination, we may not be able to accept your eligibility application.
If you haven't registered your qualification in your country of training, we'll contact both your training
institution and the regulator you could register with to check you meet our eligibility criteria.
We won’t be able to consider your application if your qualification doesn’t meet our eligibility
criteria, so you should check this before you start your application.
Remember, your evaluation fee is non-refundable, even if we determine that you're not eligible to
apply or you don’t gain registration.

Evidence of your qualification

You indicated that you have your original qualification certificate.
You'll need to upload a clear scan or photograph of your qualification certificate at the start of your
application.
You'll also need to show the original certificate to us in person before we can register you.

Contact details for your regulator

We'll ask you for the name of the regulator in your country of training, so we can confirm your
registration if you registered with them, or whether your qualification would allow you to register
with them if you haven't registered with them.
Before you begin, you should contact the regulator in your country of training to:

let them know you are applying for registration with us

make sure you have completed any steps they need you to before they can respond to our
request

Prepare to take the test of competence

If you meet our eligibility criteria, but your qualification is not comparable to one we would approve
in the UK, we’ll ask you to complete a test of competence.
This is so we can be sure that you’re able to deliver the high standards of care expected from the
nurses and midwives on our register.

Information about your health

You indicated that your health allows you to practise safely and effectively.
We'll ask you to declare this in your application.
If your situation changes in the meantime, read our guidance on health and character to find out
what you need to tell us.

Supporting declaration about your health from your medical

practitioner or occupation health
We'll ask you to give us contact details for a registered medical practitioner who can make a
supporting declaration about your health.
This could be your registered doctor or a member of the occupational health department.
Their declaration must be based on an assessment they’ve completed on you in the six months
before submitting your application, so make sure you've seen them in this time.
Their declaration must be issued no longer than 3 months before the date they're submitting,
otherwise we may ask you for a more recent version when we assess your application.

Character

Police clearance certificates

We'll ask you to upload a police clearance certificate from any country you’ve lived in for 12 months
or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years before your application, while aged
18 or over.
You'll need to make sure that your police clearance from the country you're living in at the time of
your application has been issued no longer than 12 months before the date you're uploading,
otherwise we may ask you for a more recent version when we assess your application.
For the countries you are no longer living in, you'll need to ensure that your police clearances were
issued after you left each country. If any of them were issued before you left, we may ask you for a
more recent version when we assess your application.

DBS certificate
We'll ask you to upload a standard level DBS certificate if you’ve lived in the UK for more than three
months at the time of your application.
If you're living in the UK when submitting your application, your certificate must be issued no longer
than 12 months before the date you’re uploading, otherwise we may ask you for a more recent
version when we assess your application.
If you're not living in the UK when making your application, you'll need to make sure that your DBS
was issued after you left the UK, otherwise we may ask you for a more recent version when we
assess your application.

Language

Using a test as evidence of your English language

You indicated that you plan to use an accepted language test as evidence to support your English
language.
Remember, your language can be demonstrated by an NMC-approved English test taken in the two
years before the date you make your application, where you achieved the required score in each of
the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
In your application we'll ask which test you took, the date of your test and your scores. We'll also
ask you to upload a copy of your test certificate.

Assessment and registration fees

You'll need to pay an evaluation fee when you submit your eligibility and qualification application.
Then, when you're ready to submit your full application, we'll ask you to pay a registration fee.
