Global confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 2,029,974 with 129,264 deaths
recorded. Global recoveries count up to 501,758. Comparisons among deaths rates and National Statistics (updated)

10263 people with the history of attending religious mass gathering are quarantined at 34 different locations across the
province and are being tested for COVID-19.

UPDATES / ACTIVITIES
1. PDSRU is in coordination with Point of Entries, High Dependency Units (HDUs) and focal persons nominated by SHC&ME
department.
2. PDSRU is in 24/7 Coordination with NIH Islamabad and PACP Laboratory in IPH Premises.
3. PDSRU medical officer facilitated the evaluation visit by NIH for services hospital on 5-2-20
4. Secretary P&SHD visited the PDSRU O/o DGHS to assess the capacity and preparedness of the disease surveillance system
in response to COVID-19 outbreak situation.
5. SOPs for Clinical management, surveillance and response finalized by technical working groups
6. Training of HCPs of Teaching hospitals, Rapid response teams of Multan and nearby districts and private hospitals on
clinical management, infection prevention & control and Surveillance & response regarding COVID-19 situation held at
Nishter Medical University.
7. Director General Health Services Punjab Visited Nishter Hospital Multan High Dependency Unit on 21.02.2020 to assess
the level of preparedness and arrangements for management of COVID-19 cases and Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)
protocols being followed by the staff based at HDUs and on 22.02.2020 visited Multan Airport to assess the level of
preparedness regarding screening and sorting of the International Travelers.
8. Training on Doffing & Donning for HDU Staff completed at Allama Iqbal Hospital Sialkot on 26th Feb, 2020.
9. Provincial reference lab of Punjab AIDS Control Program (PACP) is functional and equipped to carry out COVID-19 RT PCR
testing in case required.
10. Data of travelers from China received from airport health officer is being consolidated and shared with concerned DHAs
for tracking of the passengers at their locations and screen them for any symptoms of COVID-19 infection. The process of
tracking of passengers and response has been initiated by DHAs and is in process.
11. The worthy Chief Minister Punjab chaired a situational review and preparedness meeting on 27.02.2020
12. The DGHS Chaired review meeting with PDSRU Team regarding updated situation of COVID-19 Preparedness and
Response.
13. Provincial Working Group on Strategy to combat Corona Virus threat in Punjab under the Convener-ship of Worthy
Minister Health Punjab including departmental heads, infectious disease experts and academia as members has been
notified by Chief Minister Office Punjab Dated 04.02.2020
14. Master training on risk communication held under Director General Healthcare Services Punjab.
15. Hand washing and cough etiquettes promotion campaign initiated in schools of Punjab through SHNS.
16. Video Link Meeting chaired by Special Secretary and DGHS conducted on 09-3-2020 with all CEOs of Punjab to review
the current situation, preparedness & response and all CEOs directed to enhance the efforts for COVID-19 surveillance and
case facilitation.
17. Establishment of Quarantine facility in DG Khan, Ghazi University Campus 8 th March, 2020.
18. Director General Health Services Punjab visiting DG Khan on 11th March 11, 2020, to assess the facilities at Quarantine
facility established in Ghazi University DG Khan.
19. Training session is being conducted today March 11, 2020 for Health Care Providers working at HDUs of District DG.
Khan regarding infection prevention and safe sample collection & transportation of COVID-19.
20. Training of Police Line Staff Lahore on Infection Prevention & Control by PDSRU staff conducted on 12th March, 2020.
21. Training and on the spot implementation of the SOPs at quarantine established at Ghazi University D.G Khan by the
Provincial team on 14-03-2020.
22. 13005 Zaireen and Tableeghi Ijtema attendees were quarantined at 34 places in the province.
23. The worthy Chief Minister Punjab has announced a lockdown of province on 23-3-2020 to control COVID-19 spread.
24. Provincial Cabinet is daily reviewing the emerging situation of COVID-19 in Punjab.
25. District level trainings of HDU/Isolation/Quarantine staff were initiated on 27th March and is in process.
26.Android based reporting and surveillance system is fully functional at health facility level.

WHO Surveillance Case Definitions

Suspect case
A. A patient with acute respiratory illness (fever and at least one sign/symptom of respiratory disease, e.g., cough, shortness
of breath), AND a history of travel to or residence in a location reporting community transmission of COVID-19
disease during the 14 days prior to symptom onset.
OR
B. A patient with any acute respiratory illness AND having been in contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case (see
definition of contact) in the last 14 days prior to symptom onset;
OR
C. A patient with severe acute respiratory illness (fever and at least one sign/symptom of respiratory disease, e.g., cough,
shortness of breath; AND requiring hospitalization) AND in the absence of an alternative diagnosis that fully explains
the clinical presentation.
Probable case
A suspect case for whom testing for COVID-19 is inconclusive.
• Inconclusive being the result of the test reported by the laboratory
OR
• A suspect case for whom testing could not be performed for any reason
Confirmed case
A person with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 infection, irrespective of clinical signs and symptoms.
Definition of Contact
A contact is a person who experienced any one of the following exposures during the 2 days before and the 14 days after the
onset of symptoms of a probable or confirmed case:
1. Face-to-face contact with a probable or confirmed case within 1 meter and for more than 15 minutes;
2. Direct physical contact with a probable or confirmed case;
3. Direct care for a patient with probable or confirmed COVID-19 disease without using proper personal protective
equipment
OR
4. Other situations as indicated by local risk assessments.
