Balkan Youth School, Bosnia and Herzegovina

REPORT (25 February-4 March 2019)

Within the Balkan Youth School program in Sarajevo, three activities were held last week.

1) The opening

2) Two lectures within the module of International Relations.


On Monday, February 25, the opening ceremony of the Balkan Youth School in Bosnia was held.
The organizers and students were privileged since the ceremony was attended by high
representatives of Turkish institution headquartered in Sarajevo and Ankara as well.
The ceremony started with a brief introductive speech by the director of Center for Advanced
Studies Dr. Ahmet Alibašić who presented the program that is to be realized in Sarajevo. The
second speaker was the representative of The Embassy of Republic Turkey in Bosnia, Cultural
Attaché Vasi Ete who wished a success to participants and presented the role of the embassy in
Bosnian society, especially in the field of education. The program was opened by speech of
Nedim Aslan, Coordinator for the Balkans at YTB, who presented the program that is going on in
the Balkan countries apart from Bosnia, presented the role and valuable support by YTB to this
kind of programs and wished a success both to participants and organizers. Afterwards,
participants introduced themselves.
On the same afternoon, after a brief break, participants had an opportunity to listen the first
lecture in the field of International Relations. Lecturer Dr. Hamza Karčić presented the main
subjects and actors on the international relations scene and tried to explain the influence of
geographical location on the country's geo-strategic and geopolitical objectives. He also
discussed the importance of international non-governmental and humanitarian organizations by
presenting their interests and areas of activity.

On Tuesday, March 4, participants attended the second lecture within the Internation Relations.
This time Dr. Hamza Karčić presented the role of individuals in international relations through
very illustrative examples on how international community is functioning. The discussion during
the session was very fruitful.
