RWD850-2 strain Pathway, Common Pathway, Reference strain Pathway

Abstract

To understand the pathway illustrated, when viewing RWD850-2 strain pathway, cancel out the
reference pathway (orange), when viewing the reference strain pathway, cancel out the RWD8502-2
pathway (blue). The common pathway is the normal pathway that both Saccharomyces cerevisiae
take. Both strains are under an anaerobic medium with excess glucose, the reference pathway is
able to consume all of the glucose with pyruvate decarboxylase, whereas RWD850-2 is only able to
consume 5% glucose because the lactate dehydrogenase creates a pathway that requires extra ATP
than it can’t make, because of this, it is unable to undergo protein synthesis to create the
phosphorylases to utilise glycogen and trehalose for ATP. The low ATP acts as an inhibitor for protein
synthesis. Lactate anion needs ATP to leave the cell, because of low ATP levels it is unable to due to
channel needing ATP to work. Breaking down glucose into lactate anions will only increase the
acidity of the cell, this can be another explanation why glucose isn’t consumed. The cause of the low
ATP is still unknown due to machinery limitations.
