Organizational structure has evolved over the years, right from the industrial revolution to

date, and is still changing as per addressing the goals of the companies are concerned. After

taking lessons from the readings, I learned that is is extremely critical for an organization to

have a structure to succeed and comply with its vision and mission. But,as mentioned in the

articles, structuring an organization is far complicated than just drawing a chart of lines and

boxes.Relating this theory with my work experience,I found that there were instances

wherein my manager could not allot the right work to right people, and hence the deliverables

of the project lacked in quality.Besides,I also realized that there are some tradeoffs to be

made while segmenting the work for a project.Hence, it is extremely critical for an

organization to allocate decision rights to a capable executive. The organization which I

worked with follows a matrix structure,to use the strengths and avoid the limitations of both

functional and divisional structures. But,in spite of being the preferred structure, the matrix

structure has some barriers such as lack of clarity and consensus between the functional and

the marketing team to complete a project, for instance. Some organizations are following

some practices, such as the system of mentors and mentees, which helps in hearing out the

approach of each employee and, thereafter, helps to proceed with the project efficiently.

Besides, apart from the structure and structuring, individual and collective performance are the

best prospects of efficient returns and indices to success. Browsing through the case, we

looked how Fox relocation evolved its organizational structure from one to forty employees

over the years to be successful. Moreover, employees don’t put in much effort to get

appraisals or get promoted if competition doesn’t exist within and outside the organization.

Hence, responding to internal as well as external factors is equally important,in order to

sustain in the market and maintain the brand image of the organization. Thus, concluding the

writeup,I would like to mention that each organizational structure has its own merits and

demerits, and implementing an appropriate structure can have an impact on the firms' ability

to attain its goals, but the biggest problem lies in the adaptability and how to make the most

of the structure.
