Requests A, an and some
To ask for something in English, we can use Use a with singular words. ➢ pages 18 and 34
Can I have …? or I’d like …. Use an before words beginning with the vowel sounds
As you know, the British are famous for their politeness, a, e, i, o or u.
so always add please when you ask for something. I’d like an envelope.
Can I have a phone card, please? Use some with plural words.
I’d like a map of London, please. I’d like a stamp, please. (Just one stamp)
Note I’d is the short form of I would. I’d like some stamps, please. (Several stamps)
When you give a person something, you can say Add -s to make a word plural. ➢ page 60
