Evolution of Management Theory

In the Evolution of Management Theory that was discussed, I learned that, even though humans
have practiced management of goods and people since the dawn of time, it was during the
industrial revolution that it really started to evolve and develop in a great degree leading to what
is studied and practiced now. I also learned of the leading figures in the evolution of
management, from its pioneers to the people that helped push it further and developed it like;
Max Weber, Frederick Taylor, Henry Gantt, Henri Fayol and many more. I further learned that
during the classical period, management thought was focused on job content, standardization, the
division of labor, and a scientific approach towards the organization. It also was also related to
the industrial revolution as well as the rise of large-scale enterprises. While, in the Neo-Classical
Theory it changed and improved on the classical theory. Because the Classical theory focused on
the job content, including the management of physical resources, the neo-classical theory
focused on employee relationships in the work environment.
