An action picture set in South Africa
in 1943, Hiented focuses ort the heart-
warming relationship between an
escaped prisoner of war and a runaway
orphan named Angelo. Assigned to a
military police post in South Africa,
British Lieutenant Le Riche discovers
that his commanding officer, Captain
Denton, is a sadist racist whose hatred
for the POWs quartered with local fami-
lies is literally murderous, Framed and
relentlessly pursued by Denton, gentle
Angelo seems doomed unless Le Riche
can get to him before Denton does.
Hunted deals with an interesting
aspect of World War If unfamiliar to
ost Americans. Viewers looking for
«ction, however, are warned that it takes
a back seat to character development.

A Handful of Dust is elegantly writ-
ten, well acted, beautifully designed and
photographed, but ultimately a bit dull
‘The novel that inspired it, written by
“Brideshead Revisited” author Evelyn
Waugh, is a black comedy, but the
movie aspires to high gragedy. The
result is much ado about nothing.
Set in the 1930s, British aristocrat
Brenda Last (Kristin Scott Thomas)
begins an affair with a shallow fortune
hunter (Rupert Graves) because she’s a
little bored with her prim and proper
husband (James Wilby). Before the film
is over, their lives have been irrevocably
changed for the worst.
Masterpiece Theatre fans might be
entertained by A Handful of Dust, but
others may find the pacing slow.

‘An impressive array of champions suf
fer as balls veer obstinately, tremble on
the edge of the cup and—as the
announcers never fail to remind us—lose
a lot of money in the process. This is an
entertaining selection of some terrific
bloopers with a surprise happy ending.
