Controversy often surrounds the act of pill testing and consequently, various platforms eagerly voice

their opinions on whether the testing of a pill is safe or not. The aforementioned articles include the
Cathy Wilcox’s political cartoon, published on December 12 th, 2018, the online campaign established
by The Greens, ‘Pill Testing Saves Lives’ promoted in early 2019. Followed by the letter to the editor
posted by Korolev on The Guardian website on January 29, 2019, also expressing their opinion on pill
testing.

Published via Twitter, the satirical cartoon illustrated, highlights Willcox’s contention that pill testing
is unsafe, she uses this through the imagery of the sad parents grieving over their dead child. This
demonstrates how pill testing effects parents and family members around the subjects, and its fatal
consequences. The assumed doctor’s lack of pupils compared to the parents of the blonde victim,
displays that he can’t see the actual issue of pill testing and it’s impacts, linked with sarcastic
dialogue spoken by the doctor, blinded by his lack of empathy. Willcox’s tweet has been very
persuasive and effective as 1,111 users have retweeted the cartoon and 2,402 have liked the post.

The online campaign created by The Greens contends the idea that pill testing should be introduced
within Australia as they ‘want everyone to be safe,’ showing that they care for Australians health
and wellbeing when associated with pill testing. The Greens fight for the pill testing rights, coming
first to introduce this issue and its necessities within the Victorian Parliament. Further on, the
campaign explains opportunities that could benefit the youth of Australia if pill testing were to take
place within the country, showing insight on what a new Australia could be, making the readers
intrigued and giving them a sense of what their future could be like. The petition situated to the start
of the website and how it is reiterated towards the end to sign the article, gives those who weren’t
convinced before reading to remind them to sign the petition, if their article convinced the audience
of their point and argument. The Green’s campaign compares with Wilcox’s cartoon and allows a
strong distinction between the two, with their own solid views on the topic.
