Reaction Paper on Second Topic of Colloquia Webinar Series Day 3

The second topic for Colloquia Webinar Series Day 3 entitled “Project Management
101 and the Digital Transformation Response to COVID-19” was presented by Engr. Arlene
Paredes. She initially worked for a main contractor in the Philippines as Planning Engineer
for several projects. She is currently the Singapore Chapter President of the Philippine
Institute of Certified Quantity Surveyors (PICQS) and is administering contract for the
Changi Airport Project in Singapore. She tackled the topic about project management
procedure, from bidding up to finishing the project. Some examples were presented like
Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Railway. Also, the postponement
of the high-speed railway way back 2016 which is relevant to the project management topic.
Different methods to handle a project effectively was given which can be so beneficial for
future basis. She also gave some pointers about the process of actual completion of a certain
project like boring for a specific depth underground. The emphasis of her talk was about
effective and efficient manner of managing engineering projects.
Talk like this helps aspiring engineers, like me, who wants to manage a project in the
future. Acquiring ideas and advices from an engineer of her caliber will be a good reference
in project management. Also, methods and skills on how to cope up during crisis, like what
we experience as of this moment, will be beneficial on how we adjust during these hard
times. I can personally recommend this talk to my co-aspiring engineers for better reference.
In conclusion, the talk was relevant and very essential for all engineers and aspiring
engineers especially when in response to this global pandemic.
