ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

Turn into the passive (leave out the BY-phrase):


1. Somebody showed us the town.
2. They believe that he has left the country.
3. The thieves tore the curtains down and stole all the jewels.
4. The teacher will teach them a lesson.
5. Have they dealt with everything?
6. When did they fight this battle?
7. Mosquitoes would bite and sting you.

Turn into the PASSIVE (Part 2: more difficult sentences):
Leave out the BY-phrase!
1. They had told me to go home.
2. Nobody would punish him if he were quiet.

4. Our friends showed us the most beautiful buildings in town.
5. You cannot live in this flat; the builders have not yet finished it.
6. Bill is going to wash the car.
7. Bill is washing the car.

10.Some people believed that the elections had been unfair.
Turn the following sentences into the ACTIVE voice:
1. The school was broken into by thieves.
2. The porter was killed by them.

ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE – Correction

Turn into the passive (leave out the BY-phrase):

Turn into the PASSIVE (Part 2: more difficult sentences):
Leave out the BY-phrase!
11.I had been told to go home.
12.He would not be punished if he were quiet.
13.Has everything been thought of?
14.We were shown the most beautiful buildings in town.
15.This flat cannot be lived in; it has not been finished yet (not yet been
finished).
16.The car is going to be washed.
17.The car is being washed.
18.French people are said to eat frogs.
19.Damon Hill is supposed to be a millionaire.
20.The elections are believed to have been unfair.
Turn the following sentences into the ACTIVE voice :
11.The thieves broke into the school.
12.They killed the porter.
13.They took the secretary's money.

16.They threw all the papers on the floor.
