COVID-19 Fiscal Policy

Introduction

The current world-wide pandemic has had an enormous impact, not just on people but also
on the economies of towns, cities, countries and the entire global economy. Recently we
have been learning about ​fiscal policy​, which is when the government creates policies to try
and keep the economy somewhat stable. Governments around the world are currently
struggling to create policies that will, hopefully, keep their economies going and keep their
citizens fed until the pandemic has ended and they can start to focus on growth again. For
example, here in Canada the government has created several policies that are meant to help
businesses survive a period of low business and other policies to make sure that as many
people as possible still have some sort of income.

Your Assignment

Do some research to find some of the ​discretionary fiscal policies​ that the government
where you are currently living has put into place to try and counteract the current situation.
Once you have learned about some of the policies, choose one policy and write a short
report. Your report should include the following:

● The name of the policy

● If the policy is meant to help individuals or businesses
● The problem that the policy is meant to fix
● If the policy is expansionary or contractionary
● A short description of the specific details of the policy
● Is the policy new, is it adding onto current policy or is it replacing a current policy.

Remember to try and use the vocabulary that we have been learning in our readings. Use
full sentences and make sure to be thorough in your description.
