talking about plans for the future

[Neil is sitting at his desk in his office. Meera is sitting opposite him. Neil is interviewing Meera for
a job.]
NEIL: Now let’s talk about the future. What do you see yourself doing, say, in five years’ time?
MEERA: Well, I hope to be a manager one day.
NEIL: Really?
MEERA: Yes. I mean, I don’t expect to become a manager until I’ve had lots of experience in the
industry. But eventually, yes, it would be good to be a manager.
NEIL: Why is that?
MEERA: Well, I’d like to take on more responsibility – for work projects, and other people. But I
only want to become a manager when I’m ready, of course.
NEIL: Yes, of course. But there’s nothing wrong with being ambitious.
MEERA: Yes. And a higher salary would be nice!
NEIL: Fair enough!
MEERA: But if I become a manager, I’d prefer not to work on my own a lot, like I’m doing at the
moment.
NEIL: Well, none of our managers here work on their own. We all work as a team.
MEERA: Yes. That’s how I like to work too.
NEIL: And we do try to identify potential senior managers. In fact, our company has a
management trainee scheme.
MEERA: Really? That sounds interesting.
NEIL: Yes, well, if we recruit someone good, we don’t want to lose them to another company!
MEERA: Yes, I can see that.
