Assignment - 2 (Individual assignment)

Question 1 : Understanding Pathloss.

1. On matlab, simulate poisson distributed UEs(User Equipments) with density λ in

a circular area of radius R.
2. Assume the the base station(Transmitted Power 46dbm, height 30m) is located at
the center of the circle
a. Find the average power received(W) at the UEs location.
b. Find the average SNR of the UEs.
Note : Consider relevant pathloss models (For urban environment) as well as
noise power. Mention the same backed by short reasoning.

3. Consider the two-tier basestation such that BS1 transmit with power 46dBm at
height of 30m. BS2 transmit with power 30 dBm at height of 100m. BS1 is located
at position(R,0) and BS2 is at location (0,0).
a. Show as figure, the distribution of area under BS1 coverage and BS2
association respectively. The association is maximum SNR based.
Note : Max SNR based association means that a UE at location (x,y) will
association with BS1 if and only if SNR(BS1) > SNR(BS2).
b. Find the average SNR received. Consider the same pathloss model for both
BS. Note : Assume no interference.

4. Repeat the same(1-3) for Rural environment. Highlight the difference.

Question 2 : Understanding Modulation.

1. Implement the modulator block on a random 1000 bit input data.

2. Show constellation of modulated signals for BPSK, QPSK, 4-QAM, 16-QAM,
64-QAM.
3. Assume a no-noise environment, demodulate the same and compare the input
and output.
4. Now repeat the same(1-3) for the AWGN environment and plot the SNR vs BER
plot for 4-QAM, 16-QAM, 64-QAM.

Note : Assume no channel coding and source coding blocks for this problem.
