Supposed you must prepare 100 cfu/mL bacterial suspension.

To arrive in this, we must first need

to compute for the available apparatuses. First, we think of what the McFarland standard will be
we will be using and the volume of the container (volumetric flask).

We assume that we can use 0.5 McFarland Standard, 100mL and 150mL volumetric flask. To check if
we have prepared 100 cfu/mL bacterial suspension, we compute using:
C1V1 = C2V2
Given: C1 = 0.5 McFarland Standard = 1.5x108 cfu/mL
V1 = Aliquot of bacterial suspension = 0.1mL
V2x = 100 mL of volumetric flask
V2y = 150mL of volumetric flask
C2x = unknown concentration for the first part
C2y = unknown concentration for the second part

First part: Second part:

C1V1 = C2xV2x *C2x will be the C1 here
(1.5x108 cfu/mL) (0.1mL) = (C2x) (100mL) C2xV1 = C2yV2y
C2x = 150,00 cfu/mL (150,000 cfu/mL) (0.1mL) = (C2y) (150mL)
C2y = 100 cfu/mL bacterial suspsion
