Based on Gary Tieben et al, “A Checklist of the Birds of Northeastern Indiana with Migration
Dates,” Indiana Audubon Quarterly, Nov. 1978, expanded and updated with records through
March 12, 2017. Records included go back to 1969.
Counties covered: Steuben, Lagrange, Noble, DeKalb, Allen, Whitley, Huntington, eastern
Wabash (to include all of Salamonie Reservoir and State Forest), Wells, Adams, and the Jay
County portion of Limberlost Swamp Wetland Preserve.
Permanent resident species, or migratory species that are expected year round, are not
included. In the table below, WR=winter resident, SR=summer resident; casual=not regularly
occurring, out of range or peripheral to range, but shows up occasionally;
accidental=unexpected, may never recur
