This course is a study that explores the many different genres of writing. This will focus on expressive writing in different
forms. Students will have the opportunity to explore several types of poetry and prose styles, as well as responding to literature,
art mediums, quotes and music. Originality and writing that shows thought will be emphasized.

Course Outcomes

2.Identify various elements, techniques, and literary devices in poetry;
3.Determine specific forms ad conventions of poetry;
4. Identify various elements, techniques and literary devices in fiction;
5. Determine various modes of fiction; and
6. Identify various elements, techniques, and literary devices in drama.
7. Utilize language to evoke emotional and intellectual responses from readers;
8. Use imagery, diction, figures of speech and specific experiences in writing ;
9. Write a short poem applying various elements, techniques, and literary devices;
10. Write journal entries exploring key elements of fiction; and
11. Write a scene for one-act play applying the various elements, techniques, and literary devices.
12. Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to the different orientations of creative writing.;
13. Develop creativity, voice, or style and love towards writing; and
14. Appreciate how different variety of genres shapes and reflects experiences.

Important Reminders

Creative Writing is a class that explores many different genres in writing. Students will read excerpts from famous,
respected authors and model work after their style. Students should expect to have writing activities each week.
For each lesson, students will complete at least one writing assignment.
At the end of the semester, they will submit a portfolio which will be composed of a selection of their revised
assignments such as poems and stories.
All work must be original and entirely their own. Plagiarism is the use of another's work without giving proper credit.
It is not acceptable and is a serious offense; therefore cite the sources always.
Moreover, students are expected to meet deadlines set in the class.
Modular students must submit a printed copy to the instructor via drop box on a specified schedule.
Online students must submit a soft copy to the instructor via email.
