Task 5

Mini autobiography
Your task will be to write up a short autobiography. Here are some requirements:
- Split your autobiography into two parts: a factual and an imaginative one.
- In the first part – that is the factual component – write about your present situation:
all the factual information should be included there and as well your ambition. This
one should be the more “honest” one.
- In the second one – that is the imaginative component – you should follow what Dahl
did in his autobiography. Choose one or two anecdotes and explain why this/these
events in your life led to your current situation. This part shan’t be “honest” you can
let your creativity soar. Some possible topics for your anecdote are: a relative, primary
school years, holiday destinations, food and drinks, Christmas and other celebrations,
nightmares, accidents.
- Write 300-400 words.
Evaluation:
This is a graded task; the evaluation criteria are as follow:
a) Factual autobiography: current situation described with ambitions and perspectives
(5 points)
b) Anecdote: a past (either imaginary or not) event described with a link to the present
situation (5 points)
c) Lexical variety: a wide range of vocabulary without unnecessary word repetitions (5
points)
d) Grammatical awareness: awareness of grammatical skills, especially narrative tenses.
You may want to brush up your knowledge about narrative tenses with the photocopy
attached. (5 points)

Scale: as for the ordinary Matura Exam:


0-25% (1) 26-39% (2) 40-59% (3) 60-79% (4) 80-100% (5)
