5 Interview
At the question about his decision on opening a restaurant in Chile, Kevin said that he always
was his dream to own a restaurant.
He visited Chile as a tourist and loved the open minded people, opened the restaurant with
international dishes and named it Frederick’s, after his father. He surprised the chilians that
didn’t expect English people to be good cooks.
He said that his chef is chillian that learned some English dishes like the traditional breakfast
with eggs, toast, sausages and desserts with fruit and cake. Apparently chillins have a sweet
tooth because they like to order desserts. In his carrier as a chef, Kevin met a lot of famous
people like the royal family, tennis players at Wimbledon.
The interviewer asked Kevin if they have any women working at the restaurant and he said that
he has just one woman employed because it’s a common fact all over the world because it’s a
harsh place to work at, people shouting at each other, hot atmosphere and they don’t like it.
Asked if he intends to stay in Chile, he said that he loves the place and even though the language
is difficult, chilians are very understanding.
1.6 Interview
Juan Antonio a soccer referee said that it is hard to pick the most interesting game he took part in
because all had something special. He remembers some moments in the games with Real Madrid
– Barcelona where the stadium atmosphere was great.
He remembers his first game when he was 16 years old and the home team lost. After the game
he was attacked and injured by the players and the spectators, even a mother with a child in her
arms tried to hit him. That moment was almost the end of his carrier.
At the question if there is more cheating in soccer than in the past, he said that yes, it is because
of the amount of money there is involved now. It is harder and harder to catch them cheating and
the worst form of cheating is when the players pretend there is a foul and fall down and say they
were pushed.
The players cheat on the team, referees and spectators that pay money to watch the game. The
job of a referee is very difficult because the game is fast and the referee has to make some
decisions based on his interpretations of the rules, especially when players cheat.
Juan doesn’t think that fair play disappeared and the cheaters are still the exception.
