STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The wave of protests, conflicts and issues challenging the peace of Nigeria is an issue worth studying for
the avoidance of future reoccurrence.

As an officer with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps I understand that once the peace of any
country, state or clime is threatened, the security agencies are faced with the task of managing such
conflicts.

It is therefore imperative for me to further this study on Conflict Peace and Strategic Studies to
understand the ways and means of effectively handling similar issues.

My study at the National Open University of Nigeria gave me the freedom to explore both the Southern
and Northern parts of Nigeria.

My Master’s Degree research project focused on Desertification, Deforestation and Conflict in Katsina
and Ondo States of Nigeria. This research made me understand the nature of conflict in relation to
scarcity of environmental resources.

I believe that studying in your prestigious university will avail me the opportunity to broaden my insight
on the issue of Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies which will help in the advancement of my career as
an internal security officer in Nigeria.
