Introduction

This section should include the time, date, place, incident type (murder, burglary...), source of
assignment (dispatching room, police station...), team composition (how many members, each
team member mission, each team member skills...)

Scene Arrival

This section should include the arrival date and time, conditions of the scene (cleanliness, level
of disarray, transient evidence…), general description of the scene (building, room, area, doors,
windows, openings, furniture, appliances…), environmental conditions (rain washing away
bloody areas, wet shoe prints drying on asphalt…), personnel present (unauthorized people were
inside or outside the scene....), name of the concerned first responder, debriefing of the first
responder, injured and dead bodies conditions....

Scene Control and Security

This section should include the security of the scene and safety of team members, scene hazards,
personal protective equipment (PPE), the perimeter condition, the scene entry and exit points,
preliminary survey, potential evidence evaluation, recommendations and instructions given to the
first responder (if any), team members mission at this level (the narrative descriptor was
exchanging information with the initial responders for better understanding of the crime
scene....)....

Scene Search and Evidence Labeling

This section should include the search pattern applied, the reason of choosing this pattern, the
establishment of an evidence log (Appendix 1), the total number of identified evidence, the
detailed description of each identified evidence (including a detailed narrative description of
deceased and/or injured), the label of each identified evidence, the search for latent prints
(method used, reagent…), additional examinations (external ballistics…),....

Scene Documentation
This section should include the general introduction about scene documentation and its purpose.
Photography

This section should include the purpose of photography, methodology used (from general to
specific), number of total photos taken, number of each of overall- midrange- and close-up
photos, establishment of a photo log (Appendix 2), establishment of a photo display (Appendix
3).

Appendix 3 should include a short description under each photo taken, arrows or markings
placed on the photo to emphasize specific details (if any), 2 photos per page.

Sketching

This section should include the purpose of the Sketch, the mapping method, the reason of
choosing this method, sketch basic elements (Appendix 4) that should include the heading,
diagram area, legend, title block, and scale and direction notations.

Evidence Collection and Packaging

This section should include the equipment used for collection, equipment used for packaging, the
completion of the evidence log...

Reference Samples
(Evidence searcher and collector “Student’s name”)

This section should include the equipment used for collection, equipment used for packaging, a
list of all reference samples (fingerprint, buccal swab...)collected from the scene, victims,
suspects.... each sample should have a unique serial number. The date and time for each sample
collection should be mentioned. Samples, or their photos, should be attached in Appendix 5
according to their sequence in this section.

Additional Examinations

This section is open to describe any additional evaluations or examinations, such as evident fire
patterns and fire flow evaluations at fire scenes, trajectory analysis in shooting scenes, bloodstain
pattern analysis in violent scenes, electrostatic lifter examination for footwear, specialized
chemical enhancements (e.g., luminol, amido-black, or fluorescein enhancements) and their
results...
