Self-assessment

There is no vaccine and the cases of Coronavirus disease is getting higher. If someone
discovers a cure, then there will be a vaccine. If someone doesn’t discover a cure, then
this pandemic will last. If this pandemic will last, then the economy of our country will
fall. Therefore, the economy of our country will fall.
Let ~p: There is no vaccine.
q: The cases of Coronavirus disease is getting higher.
r: Someone discovers a cure.
s: This pandemic will last.
t: The economy of our country will fall.

I used an indirect proof or proof by contradiction. In an indirect proof, we
take a statement that we want to show is true, then assuming that it is not. I
came up with my own proposition with an appropriate conclusion from the
current pandemic. With the negation of our conclusion as a starting point,
which is “The economy of our country will not fall.” I will try to prove the
statement P by using the proof of contradiction. We will then start by
making logical deductions by providing appropriate steps and reasons up
until we arrive at a contradiction that is actually true but we assumed is not.
Proof of contradiction is just simply coming up with a way that will not
satisfy a statement instead of trying to prove that a statement is true or
valid. Coming up with a proof that a single case does not work is already
enough to disprove the whole statement. And in the case of the proposition
that I made, we came up with a contradiction that r ^ ~r, which is “Someone
discovers a cure and someone d0esn’t discover a cure.”
