Name Server

A name server is a web server that can handle questions and queries from a local computer
“Nameservers help connect URLs with the IP address of web servers. Nameservers are an important part
of the Domain Name System (DNS), which many people call the “phone book of the Internet”. Two
servers are the minimum required to work in a networked environment. The reason behind this is
because if one server were to crash another server would have to be its backup. Let’s look at it this way,
if we were to have a server crashes the information available, we will lose it, We then would have to run
the service without any flaws on a different server.

If a corporate was to operate three servers for each subnet at each one of its locations, If one subnet
were to contain two servers then the total server allocated would be six. We would need this because if
one server went down we would have be able to have another one supply the information.

It would be required to have two terminal servers for each location that will help with connecting point
to a local or wide area connection. Also, One ISP name server would be required for offsite protection.

You could also implement one of the two servers you have to be multi-home because this would allow
direct service to all the subnets to which they are connected. This would be cost effective.
